Roush today has introduced their 2014 Mustang lineup with four models, the RS, Stage 1, Stage 2, and the flagship Stage 3. As always, each one starts life as a Ford Mustang and is transformed at the Roush Performance Speed Shop in Plymouth, Michigan.
The top of the line Roush Stage 3 builds on the styling of the Stage 1 and the handling of the Stage 2. Its now legendary ROUSHcharger sustem in factory format is what is now known as the Phase 1 supercharger system.
Force feeding air into the 5.0L engine and pumping out a massive 575 hp and 505 lb-ft of torque is Roush Performance’s R2300 Eaton’s TVS supercharger. The TVS design delivers greatly enhanced thermal efficiency, produces higher volumetric capacity, and enables higher supercharger RPM’s. All of which equate to more power and better fuel efficiency in a smaller, lighter package.
But that’s not all. For 2014, you can option a Ford Racing “Aluminator’ forged engine in your Stage 3. This will be a popular option for those looking to expand their power by adding the Phase 2 and Phase 3 ROUSHchargers to their car for worry free performance.
“This year we also teamed with Ford Racing to offer their Aluminator engine as an option.” States Tim Wheeler, Vice President of Roush Performance. “With forged engine components for added strength, the Aluminator is a great option for those who might want to take their Stage 3 to the next level down the road. The Aluminator is the perfect building block for the 620hp Phase 2 and a 675hp Phase 3 upgrade kits that we offer through the Roush Performance catalog and authorized Roush Performance parts dealers.”
Also new for 2014 is an optional X-Brace and rear seat delete. The X-Brace helps provide additional rear structural rigidity and is available across the Roush Mustang lineup. In addition the Stage 2 and Stage 3 packages receive a race inspired suspension that greatly improves handling, allowing the Stage 2 and Stage 3 Mustangs to pull over 1g of lateral acceleration on the skid pad.
A big part of this handling package is the 18-inch by 10-inch cast aluminum, five spoke, chrome Roush wheels wrapped in Roush/Cooper RS3 ultra high-performance tires. The suspension system consists of a larger, stiffer front stabilizer bar to reduce body roll and provide balanced, neutral handling.
It also now includes the exclusive Roush designed anti-wheel hop kit, twin-tube shocks with unique valving, increased spring rates as well as upgraded bushings and jounce bumpers.
As before, all of the Stages 1, 2 and 3 Mustangs get the Roush designed R6 aero body package which includes a unique high-flow upper grille, high-flow lower opening (grille eliminator), corner fascia aero pockets with driving lamps and front chin splitter.
New for 2014 is an optional horizontal bar lower grille that is styled to match the upper high-flow grille. The unique Roush hood scoop is included on the Stage 3 and is available as an option on the Stage 1 and 2. All of the Stage Mustangs receive the rear rocker panel and rear fascia side splitters, a three-piece rear decklid spoiler, Roush rear aero valance featuring race-inspired diffusers, and is finished off with integrated dual chambered, chrome exhaust tips.
New for 2014 is the addition of Magnum Grey, Mat it Mango, Launch it Lemon, Marina Blue and Punch it Purple to the Stage 3 graphic color lineup. Along with the addition of new graphics colors, a new full body paint option is now available on all Stage 3.
“The 2014 ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang is not only the best performing Mustangs to come out of our shop, it is one of the most customizable” states Wheeler. “We’ve added new graphic colors to the Stage 3, a full body paint option, a new 20″ wheel design and not to mention other options like the Aluminator engine. It is easier than ever to personalize and build a truly unique Stage 3 that is sure to stand out in any crowd.”
Also returning for 2014 is the 3.7 liter V6 Roush RS. With 305 horsepower the RS still packs quite the punch. The base RS package offers many upgrades, including premium 18” painted aluminum wheels with performance tires, Roushlowering springs and a unique areo body kit. The combination of Roush styling and handling with up to 31 mpg on the highway, makes the RS is a great choice for those looking to get a fun, sporty car that can also double as a practical daily driver.
