History and Owners
Q. When was the first Roush car available from a dealer?
A. The first Roush Mustang was built in the spring of 1996 by outside vendors. The first Mustang built by Roush was in the summer of 1997. From 1999 – 2001 Roush had four build facilities that they owned - Livonia, MI, Dallas, TX, Charlotte, NC, and Santa Ana, CA. To effectively support build volumes, they reduced it to two facilities in late 2001 (October) - Livonia, MI, and Santa Ana, Ca.
Q. How do the Roush Serial Numbers work? Sequential from what time? Cars/trucks together? Is there any logic to the numbers as far as determining the year, Stage, etc?
A. The sticker in the door is based on any vehicle in sequence of build with no reference to model. Roush has been installing those stickers in the door jams since early calendar year 1999.
The serial number on the 2001, 2002 & 2003 Stage 3 was shown on a dash plaque behind the shifter. They were numbered based on the model year and then the sequence of build.
Therefore, 01-001 would be the first Stage 3 built in 2001 model year (which is Jack Roush’s Car). Number 02-001 would be the first Stage 3 build in 2002 model year (which was originally delivered to McCarville Ford in NY).
Q. When a vehicle is sent in to Roush Performance for a conversion, is a serial number assigned to that vehicle?
A. Yes.
Q. Is there production information for the Roush cars available?
A. Yes! See our About Roush page for full information on production numbers.
Q. What is the breakdown of colors and body types for the 2001 model year Stage 3s?
A. See our About Roush page for full information on production breakdowns.
Q. Is there a plan for a Roush Owner’s Group? Will I be hearing from Roush in the future?
A. A Roush Owners and Enthusiast Association was formed in 2003.
Q. What is the story behind the coin that comes in the toolbox?
A. The coins arrive in the tool kits blank so that customers can have anything engraved on the coins. Initially, many owners were engraving their name and VIN. Owners are allowed to have anything engraved on the coin.
Misc. Car and Parts Questions
Q. Is the Stage 3 supercharger kit going to be available as an aftermarket item?
A. Roush offers Roush edition superchargers that can be equipped on any 1999 and up Mustang.
Q. Will a rear bumper (with ROUSH lettering in place of MUSTANG) be available on future cars? As an aftermarket item?
A. For 1999-2004 owners, no - cost prohibitive. Recent product evaluations have proven that Roush cannot produce enough to support a reasonable price in the market place. 2005+ Roush body kits have the lettering in the rear fascia.
Q. The rear wings on 99+ Stangs have had different configurations with the posts – none, one, two, and three. What is the story on the posts?
A. The rear wings are a result of Ford factory changes. Roush has basically one wing. The factory mounting points changed from 1999 model to 2000 model. As a result, the factory Mustang wing mounting points were left in the decklid. Rather than fill those holes with rubber grommets, Roush added the extra stantions and found that not only did it give it a distinguished look, but it also filled the holes and provided additional support.
Currently, all combinations are available in the Roush catalog. The SM99-1530-AA is a three post wing (or a five post if you add the pedestals.) and the SM01-1530-AA is a two post wing (or a four post wing if you add the pedestals.) So you can get a 2,3,4,or 5 post wing. Whatever one you like is available.
Q. I just got a 2001-2004 Supercharged Roush Stage 3/360R/380R/440A Mustang. What can I do to get more power?
A. The most famous question of them all! The answer has its own page: 2001-2004 Roush Supercharger 101.
Q. What new products are coming in the future?
A. More Roush aftermarket accessories are in the works. A new catalog of Roush parts is coming. It will contain a variety of accessories from license plates and t-shirts to exhaust systems and shifter knobs. It will be about a 30 page catalog.
Q. What is the source for Roush suspension parts? What are the spring rates for the springs? Can a Roush Bilstien be replaced with an off-the-shelf Bilstien? What are the diameters for swaybars? Is a front-end alignment done during the assembly process? Is it the same as a stock GT?
A. Roush suspension secrets (like spring rates and shock valving) are like the Secret Recipe at KFC - not available.
