08-15-08: If you have owned any of the Roush factory supercharged Mustangs since they began production in 2001, you KNOW what a difference a good Cold Air Intake (CAI) can make. While on naturally aspirated cars they can give you that 10-15hp bump, you can easily see more like 25-35hp gains with a supercharged car.
Roush has finally rolled out their own official CAI for the 2005-2009 ROUSHCharged cars. They only claim that their kit will add about 15 hp, or about 460hp at the crank. Whether this is a conservative rating or not, is unknown but with Roush you know you are getting what they promised.

The kit made specifically for ROUSHCharged cars has a Roush reusable air filter, air dam, induction tube and Roush proprietary PCM calibration. Roush is proud of its new brand of air filter as well, which is says traps the smallest dirt particles that ordinary cotton-gauze "performance" filters can’t capture. Based on SAE standards, Roush air filters capture almost twice the percentage of 2 micron particulates, and more than six times the amount of 0.5 micron particulates than our competitors’ filters.
Roush reports that the kit can improve airflow up to 400 CFM over the restrictive stock intake tube. This is really what enables the supercharger to breathe better and move more air. The kit includes all the necessary hardware, making it quick and easy to install, taking only 15-30 minutes.
It is a more expensive kit compared to many, coming in with a retail price of about $419. Though your price at your favorite parts outlet may be somewhat less. On of the things Roush does want people to note is that use of this kit will void the Roush drivetrain warranty. This is because the kit does push the stock bottom end of the Ford 4.6 3-Valve V8 engine to the bleeding edge of what is considered the “safe zone”. Mod at your own risk, but it sure is fun! |
