Story: Sam Haymart
07-18-07: While it seems that Carroll Shelby and Ford have been churning out a new version of the Mustang every couple months for the collector, Jack Roush has been busy creating new cars for the core driving enthusiast. For 2008, Roush will continue to build upon its line up of tuner Mustangs, creating specific versions of his cars to meet a variety of driving interests.
In 2007, the top of the line, fully loaded Roush Stage 3 supercharged Mustang powerhouse was joined by a less expensive pure performance variant known as the 427R. The model came with less of the standard interior and exterior frills but added a few under hood tweaks boosting the horsepower up to 427. It stands out with its trademark 427R side stripes that can been seen a mile away. It has been an overwhelmingly popular model, although most have been optioned up to what most Stage 3 models come with.
Also in 2007, Jack created the Roush Drag-Pak Stage 3 Mustang. This is a limited model that was tailored specifically for the weekend drag racing hobbyist. This car came with a host of mechanical upgrades to make the car hook up on the strip, display extreme durability on the track, and be able to go back to street duty at the end of the night all year long. Again, it cast aside some of the frills for pure performance function. There was even a set of extra rear wheels mounted with Mickey Thompson slicks included.

It all stems from Jack Roush's own visions of what a car should offer an enthusiast. Because he has many automotive pursuits, he has seen fit to build versions of his cars to suit them all.
For 2008 this premise has brought forth yet another model, the Trak-Pak.
Starting with a Roush Stage 3 Mustang in spirit, the Track Pak model seeks to offer the open track road course hobbyist a turn key car that can be driven from the showroom to the road course without passing the parts store. The Track Pak is specifically built and tuned to be a no hold barred driving machine for the weekend warrior that provides hard core road holding, track tuned gravitas, and the power to make it a great deal of fun.
The package includes all the same go fast components that the ROUSHCharged Stage 3 Mustang is known for. The roots style supercharger and intercooler system brings horsepower to 435 with a 400 lb-ft torque rating. The familiar Roush wheels, aerobody kit and other visual accoutrements are included as well.
Putting it all down on the track is a specially tuned track ready suspension with adjustable front and rear shocks, upgraded springs, beefy stabilizer bars and adjustable camber plates. Menacing looking black forged Rous wheels and special rubber complete the business end of the car. Inside a gauge pod with professional racing meters and a shift light keep the driver apprised of the vital statistics.
Not unlike the 2007 Roush Drag-Pak cars, what sets the new 2008 Trak-Pak Roush Mustang apart from its brethren is the comprehensive package of components that make the car not only better performing on the track, but better lasting. This is to say, that anyone can order a bunch of parts out of a catalogue for a lot less than this car will cost, but most people focus on the bare bones "get me on the track" items that only get your part of the way there. What most people overlook are the important and comprehensive modifications and upfits that make the car more durable for harsh open track days, more safe, and more reliable all around. After all, you want to get home too.

These core components include a beefed up rear axle with a Detroit Tru-Trac torsional rear differential that can take a beating while providing superior power delivery. Included are Roush 6-Piston front calipers w/ 14" two-piece slotted rotors and slotted rear rotors. Brakes are further upgraded with Hawk high performance brake pads and high temperature brake fluid to prevent fade and outright failure on the track. Also keeping those brakes cool are a set of air ducts routed from the front fascia. There are radiator cooling shields to assist in keeping engine and intercooler temps at bay during demanding track sessions.
The components have been tested, proven and tuned by Roush engineers and the polish has been put on. In total, the package represents a greater value than the sum total of its parts. Be on the lookout this fall.
