Blueboy Question

Jim,

If I recall correctly from an earlier post, you had someone else do your hood locks. Am i remembering correctly?

I really like the way they look. Would you mind refreshing my memory and telling me what product you used and how tough it was to install these correctly. Since I know you do so much of your own work, perhaps doing these takes some special skill? I would like your advice if I should use a body shop to install them or any other suggestions you might have.

Thanks in advance.

Bill

Well, I did them myself and it depends on how much you want to run at your car with a three inch hole saw. Terry DeLong from Fang Performance (great guy)did them first for SEMA last year. When I did mine, I didn't know. I could walk whoever does it through it. It's kind of tricky, you need a really really long 3/8 drill bit and run it at a proper angle through the hood, inner and outer panel, hitting the radiator support where the latch points will be installed. Then you cut with 3in hole saw using the 3/8 as a pilot hole, keeping proper angle. Another tool you will need is a step drill bit to remount the holes on the radiator support. Also a 10mm nutsert tool to install 4 10mm bolts to hold the latch plate to the radiator support. The hood pins that I use are triple nickel plated off of a 71 mach one. They are EXPENSIVE. $80.00 apiece plus mounting hardware and modding. The hood pins have to be modded also. I will do a set for $240 plus shipping and will match them to mine perfectly so they fit well. Also I recommend putting panel bonder or smart foam in between the inner and outer panels because when you install the hood pin it will squeeze them together. That way it wont make a dish in your hood. Hope that helped
Thanks
