New Noise???

Noticed I am starting to get this sloppy sounding/metal clanging sound. Only on medium acceleration, but worse under braking and in 2nd/3rd gear. Tried to check if anything was loose underneath, but everything was tight. Can't really feel it either through the shifter. It sounds like something is loose, and sounds worse under cold conditions, which would make think loose, but can't find anything!!! Anyone had the same issue yet? It's got about 7K on the clock.

Dread taking it to the dealer b/c I know they will have it for some time if that's the case. Today, though, a squeaky metal noise started on some decelerations. Should like to pieces of flat metal spinning together. That can't be good. Strange it doesn't really sound under load, but mostly on decel. only. Hate to take it in and have them say it had something to do the tri-ax short shifter!!

Your issue sounds much different from mine. I was accelerating on a slight uphill at 75-80 and heard loud clunk. Accelerating after that resulted in a grinding-like vibration but no additional noises. After getting to the side of the road and taking a peak under the car I saw fluid draining from the front of the diff. The dealer pulled it apart and found the pinon was bent, seal was busted and gears were shot. As BB said everything inside the diff was replaced. Once the guys got the right parts in(you don't want me to go into how long that took...), it only took a couple of hours to rebuild.

And as for the miles, this was at 1696. Talk about making someone question if they bought the right vehicle...

SLUFAN, I have the same noises, happens when its cold only, usually 5 minutes later its good, and it only happens if I slowly hit the gas, if I step on it it wont do it, but it started when I replaced the Off-road X-pipe.. My car is lowered so I'm like 3" from the ground and I haven't gotten underneath of it to see if something is loose until I got to someone with a lift, but all it sounds like its like its just loose.....i dunno......at least I hope so.

Yeah, that's the problem. Seems like it something loose, but then again, it only happens in gear and on low acceleration or deceleration. Almost like a diesel clanging. I set up appointment for Friday to make sure nothing internal in the transmission.

sweet, please let me know what's up with it after you take it. I'm not liking the noise on a brand new car.
Thanks.

Spoke to X-pype yesterday. He said they haven't had any complaints. Told me to be sure the middle pipe didn't twist at all. Even 1/4" where it connects with the x-pipe will cause problems over the axle. But again, the vibration is coming from underneath where the tranny is. Will double check if the rain ever stops here. Also said they have had a mounting rod bend too much, causing it to vibrate and rub the brace holding the bushing. Simple fix is to bend the rod out more. I'll keep everyone posted.

LSUFAN -

I just found this on mustangblog.com...

TSB 05-8-8: Growling Noise in Transmission. Some GTs built before January 15, 2005, and equipped with the five-speed manual transmission may exhibit an intermittent grinding noise while decelerating in Second or Third gear. More likely to occur during warm-up, the noise may sound like a bearing growl, screech, or scraping. Under warranty coverage, dealers are instructed to replace the Reverse gear and synchronizer on the main shaft.

Very cool. I'll print it out for my service guy tomorrow. It is definitely a contender. Roush conversion, however, was done in April of 2005, it will be tight pending production date.
