K&N CAI installed

I got around to installing the K&N CAI over the weekend. I was going to post this up after I finished it but forgot to, nasty case of c.r.s. these days. The kit was really easy to install and looks good too. I haven't had a chance to test drive it yet. We got about 7" of snow on Friday and the roads in the sub are still covered with snow/ice and salt. Here's some pics of the final product.

looks good. you should notice a difference in the exhaust sound and throttle response. I wouldn't take that nice mustang out on the roads if theres still snow.

Thanks. It's just killing me that it has been so harsh here so soon. I was hoping to get a few miles on her before winter hit. I've only put 10 miles on her since I bought it on 11/28.

Are you planning on "re-tuning" the computer with a Diablosport Predator or other flash to keep the check engine light from coming on or is K&N not concerned with the changes that may effect the MAS?

There should be no concern with the K&N. According to K&N a reflash is NOT required because of the placement of the MAS.

Ok, keep us posted though in case check engine light does come on. Sounds like this may take a while due to your weather situation. I know how it is, I only take my car out on sunny days (it's never been rained on). Looks like snow this weekend in Texas!

I had an 04 Mach1 with the K&N CAI and never had the check engine light come on. The only time I've heard of that is with offroad x or h pipes.

I've read that that 2005 computer is so 'tight' that even the slightest change from the norm will make the check engine light come on. I know other CAI kits do because I met a guy with a Roush at a car show a couple of weeks ago that had this problem with the C&L kit.

I have on mine and I was disaponted with the fact they did not have a seal between the tube and the box. When the engine running and the fan comes on the hot air off the rad blows right into the filter box. The temp of the filter was just as hot as the engine. i emailed K&N about this and they said the was not eally a CAi??? WTF I thought that's what they advertize it as. I made a seal to fix the air gap wasn't much of big deal but stiil i think you shouldn't have to fix some thing I feel was incomplete. ( My rant Of The DAY)

You made a good point about the K&N and all the other CAI systems. As far as I know, the MRT CAI is the only one on the market that is completely sealed, but at $319, I can do what you did and add a seal around the hole in the heat shield. I don't know if there is any way you could completely seal any of the CAI systems on the market? I think the term cold air induction is a misnomer (sp?). I think the greatest advantage of the CAI systems out there is the high flow, large area air filter and smooth inlet tube. And on another point, some people feel that systems that use steel or aluminum for the inlet tube is not the way to go either. They believe that those tubes get too hot just from the ambient air temp of the engine compartment. I don't subscribe to that theory. I had the C&L system on my Mach (after the K&N, because it looked cooler ) and the car ran no worse or better than it did with the K&N.

When I was looking around for a CAI, K&N and MRT had the only kits that stated no reflash required, I hope they are right. But, in the spring I am going to get an x-pipe installed and her dyno tuned anyways. I'll keep you posted if the light comes on though.
