Question Steeda's response to Roushcharger question

Below is a response to an email I sent to Steeda about buying and getting a Roushcharger install done by them. He also states that they no longer sell the kit as their website used to advertise. Any opinions on his statement from those with the Roush s/c and tune?

If we are to install the kit we are looking at 20 hours & $1600 for install, contrary to what Roush says for install times @ a rediculous 8 hrs, that they also claim they have done it in 4 hrs. Are my installers trying to set install records or do the job right so we dont have a come back. Now also, have you seen what kind of power that kit will make? Well forget what you heard, 353 rwhp is the best we have seen, pretty weak!!! It is a nice install overall, but not a great performer for the money spent. Jason

I'm looking into getting my car supercharged, but I am really balking at the total cost (kit and install) of the Roush s/c, especially when the Kenne Bell setup is cheaper and even with their suspect tunes, I can get it dyno tuned for cheaper than the Roush. It seems like the bulk of the price is to offset the warranty. Any opinions or ideas are appreciated.

Thumbs down

I would consider the source. No offense, but I wouldn't buy anything Steeda sells.

20 hours for "professionals" to install this kit is pure insanity.

With more than one tech on the install, it should bring it down substantially.

If they wanted to charge $1600 for the install, they should raise their hourly rate instead of over-charging by time.

I'd say bring her up to Otown, and we'd install it mega cheap (in comparison), but I'm no longer there...

Good luck in your search, but I say goto a local reputable mechanic...

Keep in mind, I am taking the response with a grain of salt considering who it's coming from. I just wanted to see what people thought to get a better idea of the direction I'm gonna go. Steeda's parts that I had for my old '00GT were very hit or miss quality-wise. I did send him a response asking what he thought was a better solution. I'll post his response if any.

I have seen a few dyno sheets posted here and there and they all seem to be between 350-370 rwhp, and supposedly the forthcoming pullyswap/tune will yield approximately 40 more fwhp (although not covered by warranty). I wouldn't be comfortable with too much more hp than that without going into the shortblock, which I would rather not do anytime soon. Be sure and post pics and your impressions.

I had some challenges with mine as well primarily because I was the first to have the Roushcharger installed. Take the time to ask around and see who is knowledgable and experienced in S/C installs. The Roushcharger is not any different than some others obviously. I found several shops had exp. with F150's (last year) for example..very similar. All that Roush requires is an certified shop to honor warranty. I received quotes in that range but, found someone that did an excellent job..for $800. Use some negotiation skills.
My car put 356 down on the dyno. It's fun and nice to feel covered warranty wise. If you want more power, I would advise different internals. If you want a clean/reliable authentic S/C.."Go Roush".

I have been trying to find a good shop down here and I don't really feel comfortable having the dealership do the install either. By the way Steeda's answer was to sell me a Vortech kit, which is exactly what I told him I didn't want. I really appreciate the responses to this and if anyone who knows a decent shop south of Pompano Beach, Fl - let me know.

Don't mean to get off topic but I didn't want to start a whole new thread cause its a quick question but...anyway, I wanted to know if your insurance goes up after you install a supercharger?

Thanks

no your insurance doesn't go up because the car still comes up as a "mustang gt", hence why its the same to insure an S3 and a GT all things eqaul, the diff for me from an 01GT to a 2003 JRC was $10 more a month, BUT, if you get into an accident and don't have the additional items covered then you are SOL. so, its up to you. my insuarnce co. has all my info docuemented

I spent about 20 hours on the install of mine. It was newyears and I was going anywhere soon with it. son and I took our time and had a few kokanee's in between. Roushcharger install has started
Second one I could do in day now that I have done one. Mine so far has been perfect not a leak code, or anything.

I was the first '05 to have a Roush supercharger installed by my dealer. They had my car for a week! They did give me something else to drive but it was a long week for me!

Roush had to reflash, so it was sent overnight (on a Friday afternoon) and didn't get back to the dealer until Tuesday. The dealer is 75 miles from my home, and my schedule wouldn't allow me to pick it up the same day it was done, so I had to pick it up a day after.

My insurance went DOWN $449.00/year from my '03 Mach I to the Roush convertible (Sport with s/c) because it has a GT VIN.

My Roushcharger dynoed recently at 378rwhp. for what it is worth, I put a Steeda upper control arm on the rear, because it wasnt available from roush when I wanted one, and I ripped the bushings out of it last week. Roush rocks. My DEALER only charged 1000 for the install.

I have been around a lot of SC cars & from what I seen you can get around 400 RWHP on a 99-04 cars with Roush SC but you have to spend a ton of money to get it. I have seen guys post what I think is crazy #s from R & stage 3 cars. All I can say is they must have had a factory freak. My car made 380 to the rear on a safe tune & every bolt on I could put on it. I think Roush did an unreal job with the cars so good that with all my mods I made maybe 20 more HP.
Get the Vortech or some other SC you will make more HP & its not like the cars hold a high value so putting the Roush SC will not make your car sale for more in the end. Now with that being said I don't think these new cars will stay together long with anything over 450 to the rear.
