Direct hit and near miss

Here's the direct hit:

Thanks to Bill @ Stage3 for the extremely quick turnaround on shipping the replacement fog light!!!

And now the near miss:

(I apoligize for the poor quality of the picture.) A rock or something damaged the cooling fins and just missed the tubing.

After seeing the near miss and the possible problem of trying to get it repaired I started thinking - Why did Roush engineer(s) install screens in the two small openings:

And why does the large opening with the cooler behind it not have a screen to help protect the cooler:

Has anyone else have that same question?

I spoke with some Roush representives and asked them about this and what would happen if the cooler was damaged and if they would cover the damage and replacement since Roush redesigned the front bumper and enlarged the opening. The answer was what I expected - Roush would not stand behind the repair. They would treat this as if you had rock damage to the front bumper. They did say that this issue would be discussed up in their next meeting.

I know it sucks when something like that happens . Buy why would you think that Roush would fix the radiator for road damage? Don't get mad at Roush it's just one of those things man. I have had to have the chin spoiler painted over on my Roush becuase of how low it is and some rock chiped it. You may want to put a speed grill similiar to the one you have installed on the foglight location. Again, sorry for the bad luck.

I'm not mad at Roush, sorry if I gave that impression. I'm more confused why Roush would go though the trouble of engineering the screens for the small openings and not for the large opening. If it was cost than why place screens on the small openings? There is really nothing behind the small opening, however behind the large opening is something that if damaged could really mess up your day. On the 99-04 style mustangs the screen covers all three openings and this makes sense to me. It does not make sense that the 05 + wouldn't do the same thing and put the screens on all three openings.

No reason to be sorry. I have been thinking of getting some type of screen as well for my car. Just not sure yet. I have a supercharger with air to water intercooler on mine. I'm just not sure if I want to restrict any air to the radiators with a lower grill cover. Good luck with the install of the new piece.

I have a catalog at work on differant types of metal screen. They have all sizes of holes, patterns and thicknesses. I was looking at my condenser coil and was thinking how nice it would be to have the same type of screen over the center opening as well. I will measure the holes and offset and I will see if they have it. I'm sure they do. They offer stainless, aluminum and steel. I will post the findings by Wed.

That would be great. Thanks for looking into it. I would be looking to match the screen on the two smaller holes.

I had one of those "foglight screens" disappear on my 05 Roush Sport back in 05. The dealer said Roush doesnt replace those screens and even if they did Roush only has enough for production cars. Lovely.

On another note, have any of you grabbed the rear valence where it says R O U S H and notice how loose they are on 05 and up models. Talk about engineering! You would think a simple support bracket could have been made.

Had the same thing happen to my car as well, broken fog light. And to make it worse, it happened the day before going to California to meet Jack himself! But once again, Bill at stage 3 came through. He didn't have an individual light in stock, so he removed one from a complete front end kit. NICE!

As for the screen, I have bought a couple of different metal screen materials to see how they would look if I was to make a custom lower opening cover. They have all looked like crap. Since I also have a billet grille, I have decided to buy a V6 billet piece without the mustang logo, and then cut, paste, staple, superglue, duct tape or whatever to get it to fit and match the top.
