Painted Caliper Mod

I decided to paint my calipers red to match my color scheme of Silver/Black/Red and here's how it went.

1. Jacking up an 05 Roush for the first time is a little un-nerving! But, I took my time and studied the suitable jack points before beginning.

2. It is necessary to drive the front of the car up on some 2x6's to get enough clearance for the jack. (Unless you own a VERY LOW profile jack).

3. Jacked up the front using the "K" member and supported with jack stands as shown.

4. Jacked up the back end using two jacks postioned where the Trailing Arms meet the body and supported with Jack Stands under the axle as shown. I avoid lifting at the Rear End (per owner's manual) and recommend the same seeing that the Rear End cover is of a lighter material than the housing.

5. Using the supplied brake cleaner (I bought my paint kit from Eastwood Industries), I cleaned then masked off the calipers as shown.

6. After carefully mixing the two-part paint I began painting the calipers one by one. It doesn't seem like you get that much paint but, there was enough for three coats and still a lot left over. Here's the results. Hope you like!

It's brushed on. The kit includes a aluminum handled brush. It goes on a little thick but it isn't too hard to work with. I was at a car show this past weekend (Yellow Rose of Texas) and saw an 06 Stage 3 in Silver. I noticed the Roush calipers on the front and the stock cals on the rear. First of all, Roush needs to get the rear setup done! If I were buying that Stage 3, that would be the first thing I'd mod, paint the rear cals to match. From the best that I can tell, the color I painted mine is VERY close to the Red Roush Cals.
Oh, yeah.... Also saw two 07 Shelby's! Coupe - Vista Blue with White Stripes and Vert - Torch Red with White Stripes. You could even sit in the Vert. Spoke with a nice gal from Ford SVT. Showed her some pics of my car I still had on my camera. She thought it was hot and that Roush was doing an awesome job!

That's the house 3 car garage. My 30x40 shop isn't so pretty! In fact my painted floor out there didn't take so it's a mess. Also, one 65 Mustang, two 87 Chrysler Conquest TSi's and a 31' (6 to 8 Mile to the Gallon) Motorhome plus tools and a bunch of crap.... you get the idea.

Very nice. One problem. Your garage needs way more "stuff" in it. Hell I can see the damn walls and floor!!!

Sweet Just put in my order. Thanks How Did you get that jack under the front? I had to go in between the wheel and door side with a small jack to raise it 3 or 4 inchs to get my floor jack under it. do you have stock suspension?

Stock Ford suspension. Drove front wheels up on 2x6's to get proper clearance for my jack. My jack is about 4 inches tall when fully retracted. I lifted entire front of car at one time using the "k" member (it's in front of the oil pan). See photo #1. I used a towel to cut down on scratching the paint on the "K" member. Then, placed jack stands out at the edges of the car as shown in the picture. Hope this helps and be safe.

Looks good, but man get a Ford Oval Decal and cover up that AC Delco on the floor jack.
