Sticky shifter

My shifter (linkage) has decided to start getting sticky when it gets hot. Sticky enough that when I am in neutral, the shifter will stay all the way to the left and the spring won't center it. After it cools down, it is smooth as the day I got it.
I've got an appointment with Yeomans Ford, Monday, to have them check it out along with a putting in a fresh batch of Roush/Valvoline oil. Curious what happened, as it just started suddenly for the first time this week. Even with my non-stop drive ("pitstops" only) to and from Michigan Dream Cruise week it never got "sticky".
I haven't run across any other shifter posts with the same symptoms. Anyone else have this happen? What was the "fix"?

I had a MGW shifter put in yesterday. I didn't see any springs in the Ford shifter that was removed. Was surprised how cheap the Ford shifter was made, just stamped out steel.

Mine does the same thing. Left to right gets very stiff and loses it's ability to return to center. I took it in last week and they said after driving it they felt no problem. I'm gonna have to get it good and hot and take it back.

There was a post on this a while back.

My search words didn't find anything previous. It sure sounds like we have the same issue. As far as shifter operation while driving, it will "row" thru the gears just fine. It is only when in neutral when I notice it and yes it has to be good and warm/hot. I will post what Yeomans does OR doesn't do Monday.

Looks like I am getting an new shifter. The tech determined it is the shifter not the linkage. Got some Roush/Valvoline 5w20 in it. I also had a squeek in the rear suspension area. It ended up being the metal clips that hold the bolts secure on the lower shock mounts. All is good and the car is back in the garage just before the afternoon rain started.

What was wrong withthe bolts on the lower shock mount? Loose? Missing? What?

There is a "lock" for the nut that was rubbing on the shock. Sort of like a wear indicator on brakes. They jus bent it away from the shock a little.

Is anyone else having this sticky shifter issue??? Mine does this too. It's getting bad enough that I hafta do something about it. Maybe time to switch to an MGW even though I really like the Roush shifter.

I HATED the Roush Shifter in my car. Same thing happened to me. I didn't like how it was freakin 12in tall either! Believe it or not, I put in a stock GT shifter with Roush Shift Knob and I love it. The throw is a bit longer, but the smoothness and comfort make up for it. Just my 2 cents

My shifter does the same thing when it is hot...looks like it is a known issue. I haven't taken mine to the dealer yet and won't until it gets worse. I usually regret letting the dealership touch my car.

Been remiss with an update. Last Monday I had Yeomans Ford install the replacement shifter. Not good... It not only sticks to the left but it is so tight, I'm not sure what gear I am putting it in....2nd to 3rd or 5th and really nervous going from 5th to 4th. It takes so much effort to move it I am afraid that I'll hit 2nd instead of 4th. Yeomans will look at it again Monday and will disable a car in stock if necessary. We'll see after that. Yeomans has been extremely responsive to my issue. No complaints ther and I am certain it will get figured out.

That sucks but makes me feel better that it just isn't my car. Looks like MGW just sold another shifter.
