Welcome Willie, The easiest way to get better sound without being excessively loud is the Roush off-road mufflers. I have a before & after video for you to compare.

Thumbs up exhaust

Go for big long tube headers, x-pipe and roush off/road. IMO

Add MAC Prochamber, roush off roads, and long tubes if you want depth of sound but beware that the cabin noise is not for the faint at heart and your sound system will be obsolete

You will get one answer from just about everyone on this.

You do have to watch the "drone" noise that can be had with many exhaust systems. The drone is a VERY annoying bass type sound that you get in the passenger area from about 1800 - 2200 rpm. This depends on the car and exact muffler system though. I found it extremely annoying on the freeway as 5th gear put me right in the middle of the drone, and it SUCKED.

As for what to get well it depends on money, and what you want. The main thing with headers is cost, it takes about 6 - 8 hours to install headers so be prepared to spend some $$ there. I have a BBK Catted X-Pipe but would not suggest it. I may take it off at some point but it's ok for now. I plan on getting the new Roush resonator exhaust system. It's cost is good, and it is supposed to help big time with the drone noise as it moves the mufflers to under the car (or something). For a mid pipe, you want cats for sure, without will be LOUD. I would suggest the MRT H pipe. It's good quality, good price, and the H-pipe gives more of a Muscle car sound. The H pipe tends to provide more low end torque, and an X-pipe tends to provide more higher end HP. I did lose power, about 3 rwhp average, when I added in the X-pipe. It was a different day, and the temps were warmer then to though.

Thanks for the exhuast suggestions - ideas.... The Roush Off Road Mufflers appear to be the easiest to install with a reasonable cost. STU, thanks for the sound samples.... are you pleased you mad the change?

Yes I am Willie. I have been lucky and don't have the drone others have mentioned. Just a little louder at cruise but the idle sound is much better. The stock mufflers did not sound bad to me when accelerating but it was too quiet at idle. We are on pretty flat ground here so when I hit cruise it is not bad. If you live in an area with a lot of hills it would probably be louder having to accelerate up the hills all the time.

Thanks STU.... Did you install the off road mufflers yourself and how did things line up after the install?

I installed my Off-Roads myself in about an hour and the tips lined up nice, no adjustment was needed. It is night and day how much better the car sounds with the off-roads vs. stock.

Yes, I installed them myself. Put the rear of the car up on stands. I had to remove front & rear muffler hangers to slide off the old mufflers. I also had to remove one of the off-road mufflers and bend the hanger rod in a little to get it centered but it is not to bad of a job.
