Dealer can tell it's been flashed?

Hi. I have been browsing here for sometime but I just signed up. My car is a 08 427R and it's stock. I had a question that we were talking about at work.

If you flash your ECU with a tune and then flash it back to stock, is there a way the dealer or roush can tell even if you flash back to stock? Yes I know it voids your blah blah blah. I was just wondering if they could tell.

Hi Bachp,

Welcome to the FnFamily! Glad you decided to post up and introduce yourself.

If memory serves me, YES - Roush can tell if a tune has been tampered with, regardless if it is put back.

Hope that helps, and oh yeah - post up pics!!!

Kandy

no pics no answers

How are you going to reflash it? From what I understand the tune is under lock and key and only Roush can do it.

From what I have read on this forum and others is that when you flash the PCM with a tuner like SCT, it leaves a signature stored in the PCM so Roush would be able to tell you had changed the tune and therefore kiss your warranty goodbye.

P51A: You are not changing the tune file that was installed by Roush, you are replacing it with another tune file.

Yes any time you flash over the existing tune it will show a change in the pcm log. The Roush ecu is locked, but can be written over by a sct or can be flashed back to a stock gt tune by the dealership and use a predator tuner. Or you could just buy a stock gt computer and have it tuned and if you need to take it back to the dealership just simply put the stock Roush computer back in and noone will ever know the tune was changed. This is what i have done to mine since i needed 2 tunes for the motor and spray. It can go back to stock with a simple ecu change.

There ya have it. Roush tunes are locked, but are able to saved and replaced. And yes, PCM changes are logged.

I am not doing anything, my P51 already came w/ the recalled tune, so I am all set.

I understand that you have a P51 and have a lot of power from the factory with a ton of potential. Why not add to it and make it the beast that Roush should have done from the factory. I would feel bad to role up beside one of those and walk off on it. Just looks bad.

I feel that the P51A will be worth big money down the road at say a Barrett Jackson, etc. The biggest return you will get is with a bone stock car. How will you walk away from a P51 if you have 530hp and the P51 has 570? Remember the cars are showing 510rwhp on the dyno w/ the updated Roush tune, which mine came stock with.

Lol the P51 is making 510 on a DynoJet. I made my #s on a Mustangdyno there is a big difference. I made 610 on a DynoJet with mine on the same setup. Also your body style of car is heavier than mine. I feel very confident in not having any problem with a stock P51.

I do not know the specifics or the type of dyno. JDM would have to explain.

A dynojet is going to show numbers a bit higher than a mustangdyno. Meaning his 530 on a mustangdyno translates to 610 on the dynojet as he said. So, 510 on a dynojet with the P-51a(as you are stating, I know others are making more) could translate to say 440-450 on a mustangdyno...compare this to his lighter curb weight and the 530hp and you can see his arguement. Just my 2 cents to help explain. Not to get off track, but wasn't this thread about the flash?...haha, j/k.

Thanks Four27R someone else that understands the difference between dynos. I'm not knocking the P51 it has a ton of potential with just a few mods. At least i'm sitting at the same playing field as a P51 with the forged bottem end. Sorry for highjacking the thread BachP.

Sweet!! Nice color combo!!! You don't see many around with silver stripes (matte black seems to be a bit more common). The Raider fans on here will be drooling!

Looks like the leaves are already falling in your area too, where are you located?
