Hello all. Stage 3 tire help needed.

Hello, Came across this site looking for new tires for my Stage 3. What's everyone using as replacements. Right now I have Coopers. I love the BFGoodrich like on the Blackjacks. I also don't have the forged Roush rims. I have the cast ones.

Has anyone put anything larger than 275s on the rear? I like the look of the GT500 rear the way the 285s fold over the rim more than the front. Has anyone put 285s or 295s on the rear? The tire and rim combo on these cars looks great, but I think that same look from the GT500 would look even more stought.

I know a 305 will fit on the rear as a friend of mine has Nitto drag radials of this size, but he also has new 454 Motorsports rims. They just fit. As for the fronts, I believe a 285 will fit, but I'm sure those "in the know" will chime in with recommendations.

PS.

Welcome to the forum. Pictures are a must. You will find lots of good info from a lot of good people here. Enjoy.

I just put 295/35/18 Bf Goodrich GeForce T/A KD on the rear, perfect fit on my new TrakPak rims.

How does the 35 series tire look? I'm tire stupid when it comes to height and width. Since it's a 295 width, does that mean the 35 height make up for the amount of tire from the rim to the outside of the tire? What I am trying to say is that I don't want it to look like I have a real low profile tire compared to the front.

Welcome, I tried several tires on the rear. 255 275 295 they are all fine I hnow 305 and 315 will fit , But you need the correct rim for the tire.
Tirs size =
275 = width
40 = Side wall or Aspect rartio
so 40% of the 275 is the height . The smaller the # the smaller the sidewall and height.
Then rim size .
Nice set up 285 40 18 on the back, like a nitto .
But you need a 9-10 " rim Peace

The best setup on these cars is a 295/35-18 on the rear. BFG preferably since they are the widest tire manufactured by size specs. The front 265/35-18. Anything wider on the front and your really just going over board. Your going to start hurting your turning ability. You'll need a 10-10.5 rim for the rear and a 9 rim for the front for this setup.

The 9" wheel thing doesn't work on these cars. Our cars come with 18x10 wheels on all four corners and come from Roush with 275/40-18s.

If you have the 18x10 rims, then you can put a 305 on the rear no problem. I ran a 305 Nitto drag radial on mine with no issues at all. 275's on the front fit perfect and don't hurt turning at all, if anything, they're a benefit.

The only problem with running bigger tires up front is that the wheels start to tramline over road imperfections in addition to slowing down steering response even further which is noticeable unless you have some sort of quicker ratio steering rack or smaller wheel installed.

How did you end up with coopers? All stage 3's I have come across had the BFG's and forged wheels. I'm sticking with the BFG's when I need to replace. I mean car only has 3000 miles in three years so I don't need new ones anytime soon.

I'm plan on staying with 275s in the front. I just want to increase the rear size. First off I want to help with some traction in the rear. Second, if anyone has paid close attention to the GT500, they use the same size 9.5 rims front and rear. Yet they use 255s on the front and 285s on the rear. The way the back tire kinda sticks out from rim helps with it's aggresive look. I'm just worried about the rear of my car to kinda get the same look. It kinda gives it a staggered look. I'm sure I will have to a 295 to get the same look since the Roush rim is a 1/2" wider. I'm just worried about getting the rear tires to close to the fender. There isn't much room there as it is. I just need to find the same brand tire that has a 275/40-18 for the front and 285/40-18 or 295/40-18 or 295/35-18 for the rear.

My other problem is telling what series tire to get to stay in the same overall height. I don't think a 285/40-18 is much different in overall height than a 275/40-18. If I use a 295 tire will I need to use a 35 series tire to keep the overall height the same.

I got my coopers off a friend who has a 427. He went with 20" wheels so I took his after mine where worn out. One day I will learn that tires last longer when you keep the smoke in them.

I also do not have forged rims which Stage 3s are supposed to come with. I got my car used and it seems that the rims where swapped out at some time before I got it. I wish I would have noticed that before I bought it. But at the time I didn't have the knowledge I have now.

Depending on the year of your car, some early Stage 3's were made without the Forged wheels.

Mine is a 05, but the only pics I have seen researching it only the original car they had at SEMA had the forged wheels. Dosn't matter to me too much. Both wheels look great. Doesn't mean I wouldn't take the forged ones in a heartbeat if I found a good deal.

Welcome to the site!

Hmmm...don't want to bust your bubble, but you probably do not have a Stage 3 then. Correct me if I'm wrong gang, but there were no Stage 3's in 2005, right?

Out of curiosity. Cast = 5 spokes with a lip and Forged = Flush 5 spokes?

I have the rims that have the lip. I do know the difference there. My car has a dealer installed supercharger from Roush to make it a Stage 3. I have to admit I don't know as much as I should about my car. I've even heard that that doesn't make it a real Satge 3 if it didn't come from Roush themselves. This thread has lost my original focus. I just want to know what is the largest tire that will fit the rear 10" rims.

On the rear you can go with a 305, 315 or maybe even bigger. What you have to watch is the overall diameter of the tire. Our stock Coopers @ 275/40/18 have an O.D. of 26.64". Compare that to 285/35/18 = O.D. 25.91", 295/35/18 = O.D. 26.20", 305/35/18 = O.D. 26.42" and 305/45/18 = O.D. 28.80 just to name a few. Spend a little time on @ Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels and you can find the info you need.
