forged bottom ends

I am new to the Roush Mustang, but not to mustangs. I am currently in the market for a new/newer convertible and I love the Roush cars. My question is this. Which of the models, if any, have the forged bottom ends? I'm looking to modify whichever car I get and am trying to avoid a catastrophic failure. Any information is greatly appreciated.

The new P-51's and the Roush Cobras are the only Roush cars with forged bottom ends. I guess it depends on what mods and what HP levels you'll need as to how well a motor will hold up. There are some cars here over 500 HP on non forged engines. But for how long who knows. The connecting rods are the weak link and are said to hold up to 450HP.

BTW, thanks for joining the family here at fnsweet, keep firing off questions, and when you get your desired ride, we will need posted pictures of said vehicle.

again, welcome to fnsweet.

+1 on whats been said. I have a stage 3 with cast parts running 476hp at the wheels but who knows for how long. One of the reasons I bought a Cobra lol...

I had a gt on stock internals at 460 for about 1 year then it finally broke a rod. That is why i did a forged bottem end on the Roush when i bought it. Forged is the only way to go if your wanting to make some real power. Although it can be done on the stock parts your just driving a ticking time bomb.

Thanks for all the info guys. I already blew up the 4.6 in my Tbird with an 8# AED supercharger. Just trying to avoid it in the future.

some will say "its all in the tune" which in part it is, but running over 450 horse at the rear wheels isn't very smart in my opinion, and the opinion of my tuner. if you must run more than that, buy a block and build something great.

i am still up in the air trying to decide to either buy a block and build a motor for the roush or just buy a termy or gt500. i am putting the cams in come spring, and should be approaching that questionable area. will wait for something to blow up i guess, LOL.

Roush has a forged short block and TVS blower kit out now. About $11,000 complete and it has a 3 year warranty to boot. This kit is for a 3valve 4.6 without a blower already. I would think Roush has a better price for cars that have the Roushcharger already. I'm afraid to find out cuz I would really like that upgrade.

^^^I believe they do have an upgrade path for those with the M90. Basically, you just swap out the blower head unit and fuel system.
