    2008 P-51A Sold At Barrett-Jackson: $110,000

    No joking.

That includes the 10% buyer fees of course.

#104 of only 151 built. Proceeds from the sale of this special vehicle will benefit The Speedway Children's Charities which is provides funding for hundreds of non-profit organizations throughout the nation that meet the direct needs of children. Their vision is that every child has the same opportunities no matter what obstacle they are facing.

I saw that, at least the money was for charity.

Some people weren't using common sense. I saw a Shelby GT sell for $37,000. With commission it had to be $40,000. Around here you can buy a new one for $34,000.

I was happy the P-51 was for charity. Bidding seemed to stall around 70-80k but they squeezed a little more out of it.

STU, I watched that Shelby GT sell and said the same thing. Last fall the local dealer had a Shelby GT w/around 1100 miles for 25k. Of course it sold quickly but IMO that guy overpaid 5-10k.

That was awesome to see the money go to charity.

What I didn't understand is why Gordons #24 went for 500k and Stewarts #20 only went for less than 200K. There were some really nice buys there as well.
Did you see the 73 Challenger 340 go for 25k? Not bad, if you're into Dodges...

That's incredible, but that's Barrett-Jackson for you. Mine's still brand new with only 28 miles on it, I would let it go for half that.

I thought they said they waived the buyer and seller fees on those charity cars? Either way, good for the kids. I also asked the same question about the Gordon/Stewart cars and my wife informed me (the NASCAR nut see is) that gay Gordon is still in that car/number/sponsor/owner and Stewart is not. Made some sense I guess, but of course I agreed with her.
Did yoy see that 55 T'bird, serial number 00005? I was wondering why the family would want to part with something like that until I saw the numbers....Holly crap.

I saw it live and DVR'd it as a backup. It was a great thrill to watch and glad what it bagged and where the money went!

Was it his rice ride? He never did well or won a championship w/ rice, only in the Grandprix and SS Monte.

    No, both Gordon's ($550k) and Stewart's ($181k) cars were Monte's, with Gordon's being an 06 and Stewart's an 07.

I did hear that about Stewart. Gordon is supposedly just the opposite..

    Go figure..

Gordon is the opposite, I met them both. I like Gordon, he is a genuine guy. I met a lot of drivers thru my NASCAR connection in the garages on Race weekends, including Jack Roush. Jack was such a cool guy, that he didn't mind being pulled out of Kenseth's trailer during Happy Hour to sign my R, he was vedry cool asking me how I like the car, the short throw, etc.

The P-51A would have done much better if they had run it Saturday night. It looked pretty empty Sunday and Pratt wasn't there to run up the bids.

The place was pretty EMPTY on SATURDAY NIGHT!

Usually in years past it was standing room only on Saturday night. Then there was standing room only outside the tent with people vying to get in!

This year, everytime you saw the TV camera pan on the crowd the bleachers were EMPTY.

    EMPTY.

I stayed home on Saturday night as it was better to watch it on TV than try and cover it from the show. But a journalist friend of mine was there and he said it was thin, dreary and vacant in the tent that night.

Guess people racked by the economy weren't interested in buying tickets to see a bunch of rich drunk guys squander cash mercilessly on toys.
