Big Brake Systems Baer VS Roush

Can anyone tell me their opinions regarding the performance of the Roush big brake system to others like the Baer Pro Plus. The Baer has 6 piston calipers VS the 4 piston Roush and sells for 1800.00 VS the 2700.00 for the Roush.

Aside from keeping the car all Roush, the Baer seems to be the better package. Shelby uses these on the GT 500.

Bottom line, which would have a better performance value?

I thought the GT-500 came with the 4 piston Brembro system. In any event I am really looking forward to the experts opinions on this one as I am in the market to upgrade my brakes. I was considering the Brembros but I really like the looks of these baer's.

I cannot really comment on which one is better, however, some of the pricing you quoted on the Roush stuff needs updating. Roush offers both 4 piston and 6 piston "big brake" kits. According to the Roush performance website, the prices are $2250 and $2900 respectively. If you shop around, you can find them a little cheaper. Regardless of the brand, I believe that the 6-piston calipers would provide superior clamping force over any 4 piston style. The flip-side of this argument would be if you used a more aggressive brake pad in the 4-piston calipers, you might achieve similar performance to the 6-piston, but at a cost of premature wear on the rotors.

    Good luck with your decision.

Is Stoptech still the manufacturer of record for the ROUSH brake kits? If that is still the case you may be able to get the exact same hardware for less by losing the logo.

Also, check with some of our sponsors here to see what kind of deals they can offer you.

Yes, the Roush brakes are made by Stoptech. Here is a company I found that has great prices on all kinds of brake packages.

Looks like they're selling the Stoptech version of the Roush 4 piston kit for $350 more than the Roush kit

I have the Roush upgraded brake kit option. It has the 4 piston calipers gripping onto a two piece 14" slotted rotor. I installed the Roush slotted rotors on the rear. My friend has a Shelby GT500 with the Baer system that includes drilled rotors and we both have front brake cooling ducts. We trade cars on the street every now and then and he likes the way mine feels much better, (so do i).

But if I was to start from scratch for a brake upgrade kit, I would strongly consider the Griggs Racing 4 on 4 brake kit. They are 4 piston calipers front and rear. I think the front rotor size is 13.5" and the rear is 12.5" grabbing onto solid rotors. This costs around $2,800 but check their website for more information. My experience with this system is a test drive in a Griggs Mustang around Infineon Raceway with a crazy driver! WOW!

I have exchanged emails with David Zeckhausen and he has been very informative and answered many questions I have had with the ROUSH Trak Pak (StopTech) six-piston big brakes. I would highly recommend Zeckhausen Racing for your brake needs, especially if you just need replacement parts. I have purchased AeroRotor friction discs (just the disc and used my existing hats), piston seals, dust covers, and copper crush washers for my race car. And for what it's worth, I run their decal on my race car.

Link to StopTech page... StopTech. I also run the Titanium Pad Shims on the race car to reduce heat transfer to the calipers. So far I believe the piston dust covers are lasting long before cooking. Good stuff, although you won't need this for the street.

I have the Power Slot slotted rotors f/r and these pads, AXXIS in the front and Hawk HPS in the rear from David Zeckhausen for the GT500 Brembos. He highly recomended this setup for the GT500's for aggressive street driving.

    PICS:

I like this setup, stops well on the street, no fade, pedal feel is solid, nice.

He has great advice, even if you don't purchase anything from him.
I had several email chats with him and a few on the phone, he's a couple of miles away from me, also found a nice resturant by his shop we talked about.
