Those who have/have heard the Roush Extreme exhaust...

What mid pipe accompanied the Extreme exhaust cat-back? I will soon be purchasing this cat-back, but I'm undecided on what mid pipe to get... if I get one at all. I was originally going to go with the Bassani catted X pipe as I like the X pipe sound in general, and thought maybe it would compliment the Extreme exhaust well. However, all sound clips I have heard of the Extreme exhaust have the stock H pipe (or so I assume since I haven't seen any that have said otherwise), and I must say it sounds pretty good like that. This leads me to believe maybe something like the MRT catted H pipe would make it sound even better/louder.... though I'm not going for obnoxiously loud since I want to keep it catted. I have also heard of guys getting something like a Pypes O/R H and welding in some aftermarket high-flow cats, something else I may consider.

What are your opinions on a mid pipe for the Extreme cat-back?

I have the extreme with stock H. I love it. I don't think I'd like it with an X but thats just me. Not sure it's worth the money to go from stock H to the MRT as our exhausts flow pretty good as is and I doubt you would hear much difference. A little cam is what would make the extremes sound even sweeter...

I have the extreme with MagnaFlow X pipe w/ hi-flow cats. They'll wake up the neighbors. Out on the road courses, I've had some drivers tell me, they don't need to see me coming, they hear me.....

Heres a question for someone here that will know, My Mustang has the Roush rear valiance, I have Roush OffRoad Mufflers, but I want to switch to the Extremes, I know the Extremes wont work with rear valiance due to round tips, Will the Roush rectangulars fit on Extreme setup, Maybe someone here has done this.

On the 2 applications I've heard them on I thought they sounded GREAT with just the stock mid pipe-

I should have waited a year or two they would have saved me some money-

I have the extremes with the rectangular tips. I've heard you can modify the supplied tailpipes but I found it easier to have new ones made.

Some modification is needed, but it can be done. Any competent muffler shop can do it. Did it on my car (05 sport), but with the exhaust I purchased new stainless square tips as the ones that were on my car were in bad shape. Took the shop a little over an hour to install it and weld the new tips on. Sound is second to none....has a nice rumble when cruising, but you can still talk to your passenger. However, if you have the windows down and jump on it, you may want to tell the passenger to "hold that thought".......

If you wanna go with Bassani X do the Pypes instead. Same tone but better flow, alot better flow. I have an exhaust leak right now otherwise id show you a clip. Its loud when your on it but mellow when idle. Ive always gotten complents on how good it sounds And it comes with high flow cats (which i kept on)

Interesting, I was always under the impression that the Bassani catted X (SS version) was a little bit higher flowing due to the metallic substrate cats as opposed to ceramic. I would love to hear a sound clip of the Extreme + catted X though. Thanks for all the input and sound clips so far!

Once had the Bassani catted x-pipe on, it was some big sound by itself (I changed it out for the MRT H after hearing a recording of it, to ricey for me) can only image it will be 10 fold with the extremes..

I think I'm leaning towards the MRT catted H pipe now. I don't know of anyone who doesn't like theirs. I have heard a few instances where people get rid of their X pipe though (catted or O/R). The catted H seems like a safer option.

If it were me I would install the Roush Extreme then determine if you really think you need to change out your mid pipe for the MRT catted H

I agree with Ford Fan. I think the Extreme sounds best with the stock manifolds and stock H-pipe. I didn't like the way it sounded with my Kooks setup.

What did your Kooks setup consist of?

Kooks headers and I have both an X and an H pipe, with and without cats all by Kooks. I tried every combination trying to find the right sound for me. The Extreme was just to Dragster sounding (at full throttle) for me. I like the off-road X-pipe with Roush Off-Road mufflers the best. It's all a preference thing.

No, the Kooks headers are great. You can have the Extreme Exhaust though.
