    Help with squeal

I installed the 2.57 pulley, and the 10% overdrive pulley from JDM. I have been driving the car for a week with no issues. Today when the car got to temperature the car starts to squeal off and on. Sometimes just idling, but it usually happens when you give it some gas. It only seems to happen when the car gets hot though. I drove it cold and had no issues, after about 5-10 minutes of driving it will start doing it. Any ideas on what it could be? At first I thought I got something on the belt but I do not see what temperature would change whether the sound is there if there was something on the belt. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Could be a belt idler pulley or one of the accessory drives...alternator, A/C, etc.

My money is on a pulley or tensioner bearing as Sabre mentioned. Use a small amount of WD-40 to lightly spray each idler/tensioner pulley until the noise stops. That one will be the culprit. The WD-40 will not fix the problem so don't go crazy with it and keep it off of your belt. The bearings can be replaced without replacing the whole pulley in most cases. The beearings press out/in pretty easily with the right sized socket and lightly tapping with a hammer, or better yet a press! Make sure if you do use a socket that it is seated on the outer race (metal part) of the bearing not the middle.

    Pretty common problem.

I had a belt squeal that turned out to be a bad 2.57 pulley from Metco. I got a replacement and all is well.

What was wrong with the Metco pulley Wharf Rat? That is the kind I have. So now it has me wondering if that could be my problem. I took the belt off and cleaned it. I checked everything else and all the idlers and stuff seem ok. I put the belt back on and so far I have no squeal. But I have only driven the car for about 20 minutes total. So I have my fingers crossed that maybe something just got on the belt.

Evidently it didn't fit the shaft right or something. It was causing a bunch of belt dust, too. No more dust with the new pulley.
