Tranny Conversion aka becoming a man

I pulled the trigger, i talked to my shop and I ordered a 6 speed tranny from a Shelby. It's going to be alot of work to do the swap , however since I'm never selling the car it will be much worth it. I think I will have much more fun with the stick than the auto. I'll let you kno how it goes!

Btw anyone else done it on here?

There is a guy in one of the regional sections going from stock tranny (manual) to the TR-6060 over at mustangforums.com He has a complete list of things you will/may need. Not exactly the same swap but it's a good read to have some guidelines to follow. My opinion anyway.

Its an easy swap!!! All the transmissions are bolt-on!!!
Are you going from auto to manual or manual (5spd) to manual (6spd)?
There are transmission kits you can buy that include everything you need to do the swap:

I'm swapping my TR3060 (5 spd) for a T-56 Magnum...its based on the TR606, but its upgraded to handle 700 ft/lb torque and its direct shift...no remote shifter!!

yup right now I got the 5-speed automatic (5R55S) and I'm going to swap up to a 6-speed manual (TR-6060). I don't think it will be hard just a lot of labor.
And the computer must be swapped too which means more tuning. I also just got that coast 1 piece driveshaft installed which won't fit the new tranny.

The 05-present Mustangs use a remote shifter that ties into the transmission...so the shifter you are shifting in the car is not the actual transmission, but a remote shifter. See link:
    http://mustangsdaily.com/blog/2008/0...hrow-shifters/
So the remote shifter ties into the transmission through linkage.

Now a direct shift transmission has the shifter directly placed into the transmission. Like this:

Here is a comparison of a direct shift vs a remote shifted transmission:

He advantage of direct shift is that when the engine is twisting due to torque so will the transmission, with a remote shifter, when you shift while the transmission is twisted, you will miss shifts due to the misalignment of the remote shifter vs the transmission.

With a direct shift transmission you don't have those issues. Other benefits are crisper and smoother shifts.

I'd be interested in taking that driveshaft off your hands if I can find out for certain it'd fit my 5sp trans.
I'm betting it won't, but I'd like to know.
