Test Drive: 2011 Mustang GT 5.0

This changes everything. The new 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 isn’t just a turn of the page, it is a new chapter all together. Since 1995, Ford fans have been clamoring for the return of the 5.0 emblem on the Mustang’s fenders. The host of 4.6 modular V8’s over the years have been impressive and some even legendary, but something has just been missing. It might have taken fifteen years, but Ford has listened. And they have made up for lost time in a huge way.

The sound of this all-new 412hp DOHC V8 roaring under the hood, bellowing through the canyons, and ripping through the gears plays on the inner soul in ways that words cannot well express. It is the euphoric addictive essence of automotive lust there for you to playback over and over again whenever you need the fix. Like chain smokers watching the clock at work for a smoke break, owners of the 2011 Mustang GT will be looking for every opportunity to get out on the road for a spirit feeding car-fix of 5.0 rumble, roar and speed. Even the smallest chance to hear that growl, the exhaust note, and feel the power will be the new nicotine. Did we mention that it sounds good?

ROUSH PUTS IT'S MARK ON THE 2011 MUSTANG

In April, 2010, shortly after Ford's Job 1 begins on the '11 model year Mustang, Roush will offer it's Stage 1 and Stage 2 versions. "The '11 Roush Stage 1 and Stage 2 Mustangs will represent an incredible value by blending appearance and handling with an amazing base Ford engine package", stated Jack Roush.

"I expect the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Roush Mustangs could come close to matching the performance of some RoushCharged Mustangs we have offered in the prior model years, which will make them extremely exciting to drive and at a reasonable starting price point."

Powertrain models, such as the Roush 427R, are not likely to be available until late summertime.

I am glad I read the entire write-up before I asked about upgrades on brakes and suspension. Is the Mustang still produced as a convertible(used to be one of 2) and not a chopped coupe? That would explain the solidness of the frame. Please don't change the antiquated rearend!! Some of us like the rawness of the old setup and let's face it, it is just part of the personality of the pony. I love seeing the 5.0 come back and you're right, this is the beginning of another era. Can't wait to see what's next with the 5.0 and Jack!!
