I dropped by the site once awhile ago. I guess I've always gotten into zombie films, the whole concept of zombies. It's neat to kinda let your imagination run wild and just have fun for entertainment. That was part of the fun in reading the previously mentioned Zombie Survival Guide.
As for the site, I don't think it takes itself too serious; however, there are a few members on the community that probably take things to the extremes. But then again, it's always that way with every "pandemic". For instance, look at Y2K, or that the sun will burn out soon, or every year some guy says he's Jesus and a he gets a whole cult following. People in this day in age just live in a state of fear, sometimes legitimately and sometimes not.
But then sometimes it's hard not to fall into that group, because it's natural to ask "what if?" What if all of the computers would have failed with the new millenium, maybe those that didn't prepare would have suffered. What if for some odd reason the sun did explode, do scientists really have any way to give a good approximation of how long the sun will last? How do we trust a scientific community about the condition of our galaxy that we've hardly explored when they are constantly disagreeing with if coffee is beneficial for cancer. And God says we won't know the time His coming, and so what if he does come as a simple man? Think how many years ago a child was born of a virgin mother, I would assume that was hard to believe.
And of course, no one ever really puts down a religion...we may disagree but we never really think hey they're all cooks them catholics, or those Buddists are just plain crazy, or those Jews are hyper and unbelievable. No we don't do that because people choose to put their faith in that. They may be completely wrong, just like those zombie believers, but if that's what they wanna put their faith in, at least they'll be ready for an outbreak of any sort.
