Older rear skirt vs. newer rear skirt...

Does anyone know why or when Roush switched from the older model rear valance to the newer style rear valance? I had recently ordered the body kit for my 95 GT from Roush and only noticed upon receipt that they are now utilizing the rear valance made by Wings West. The inside of the valance even has the molding mark of WW. What's the story behind this? Their website does not list any other valance available to the public... just the WW version, but I had heard a rumor that you needed to specify which type you wanted when you placed the order if you wanted the older model. Any truth to this?

Just curious as to why and when they made this change in the aerodynamic design. Attached below are examples of the two versions.

I seem to remember Roush not having anymore 94-98 Rear Valences, so they probably just sell those instead of not selling anything. That sucks though.

That explanation makes sense...

I tried getting their side skirts, originally, without the openings in them... but they no longer had them available. But they did have the skirts with the exhaust openings in them. But did not, however, have the exhaust to go in them. So I basically would have been rolling around with side exhaust skirts with no side exhaust.

Ended up going with Classic Design Concepts' side exhaust and skirts instead. Seems Roush isn't producing parts for the older (94-98) stangs anymore according to their tech support, and they're limited to the stock they have on hand.

Andy from Two Rivers just ordered my rear valance, and the WW is the only one they have. I preferred the old style but this will have to do.

Yep. I think the older style had a "cleaner" look to it, but the new one is growing on me. Partly cuz it's the only one available now.

Hopefully it won't look as bad as it does in the above picture, without the racing stripes and huge wing to make you go .

Anyone happen to have pix of the newer style rear valance on their mustang, or someone else's, that will give us an idea of how it looks installed and painted?

I found a site that has the older ones pictured, I'm gonna call and see if they have them in stock and I'll let you know. I didn't know you were doing this to your car, that's cool!

I remember going through this when I was looking at buying a complete body kit for my 98

When I tried they weren't even using the WW piece yet from what I remember, so my only option was to go without a rear piece. Because of that, I went without the exhaust-cut-out side skirts, and still have rear exhaust.

Now that I have standard GT rear-exhaust, and side-skirts without cut outs .. I'm stuck like that unless I want to change pieces I've already purchased, painted, and installed. So .. finding a rear ground effect that I like with exhaust ports in it is more difficult that I'd imagined.

ANYway ...

If I recall correctly, when I talked to Roush about the rear piece they told me they had a problem with the company making them in reguards to the mold. Not sure if they weren't up to the quality they wanted, or what the problem was exactly .. but they opted to go with the WW rear instead and bail on the whole "old design" all together. Now, no one makes the old piece, and Roush will pretty much never have another.

You should look into the spintech side exit system, its quite a bit cheaper than the roush and sounds very good....

Ahh... was curious as to why they stopped making it. Thanks for the info.

No doubt. Would suck, more so than usual, to have that happen.

Yeah... doing a few things here and there to the GT.

Working on the styling right now. Searched around and finally narrowed it down to the Saleen body kit or the Roush kit. Liked the subtle, but definitely noticable, effect that the Roush valances and side exhaust gave the car... so they won out over the others.

The mold went bad and wasn't repairable. I had the Wings West rear valance on my car and Dale and I both liked it, so we decided to make that the new Roush rear valance. It's cheap enough and it looks good while still flowing with the body line of the car with side exhaust. I think it looks much better than no valance at all and it isn't as square as the old one.

Cool, thanks for the info Big Daddy! The new style valence is growing on me. Do you have pics with it on your car?

There were craploads of wing available when I was there (something like 275 of them) and I think I sold maybe 2 or so in the year I was there. They should be giving those things away, but I would highly doubt that would ever happen.
