Where do I get Valve Stems!!!!????

Hey guys, been a member for a while but never really posted. I have an 04 roush, but it has the 94-00 18" rims on it. I had a leaky valve stem, so I took it to get replaced, but no one can replace it. Apparently it is a specialized slim design (6mm or something). Has anyone found these for their cars? or is there a safe way of making a standard pull through fit??

I am sick of airing up my tire daily.

Please help!

Sorry for cross posting, but I figured most of the 99-04 guys are wearing the new style rim.

Thanks!!

Where do I get valve stems???

Hey fellow Roushaholics. I have been reading for a while, but never had much to say, until now. I had a leaky valve stem and took it to get replaced, but I am told that the valve stems are specialized (6mm stems?). No one has them around here (Indianapolis, IN). My 04 has the old 18" rims on it, like the ones in 1999.

Anyone have any of these, or know where I can get some. I am sooooo sick of putting air in my tire every morning.

Sorry for acting like a true newbie.

Thanks,

I never heard of a specialized valve stem ( except for the ones that have the TPS system) but not for our cars, I got mine at autozone part # 2078-A,

however the daughters cars valve stem kept leaking, to fix they just debured the hole plus just put a little RTV where the little groove is. no problems after that.

Have you taken the wheel to other shops and seen what they say, or are you going with one shop's diagnosis? If that shop was just wrong...

That shop is guranted to be wrong. There is only one type of stem that has been put in cars since they started making them. It is a standard tr13 valve stem. Just take your car to well know tire store and they will get you fixed up. If in some weird reason that your car does happen to have a tr15 valve any good tire store should have that stem. That stem is the one that they put in large agricultural tires. If you have any other problems, let me know. I run our online tire store.

I've taken it to three stores now. Big O Tires, Tire Barn, and Indy Tire. All three say they have never seen it before. It is smaller then the standard pull through hole. A standard pull through is too large to fit. I called 800 59 roush, they said they don't have the stems anymore and to try Harley Davidson???

I checked the internet and there appears to be a special small diameter valve stem that is sometimes used for three piece rims, but I cannot find anywhere to order them. The stock roush stems were chrome screw on type, not the pull through type on the late SN95s or the current one.

Mine came with the screw in valve stem. Big O, Tire Barn, and Indy Tire say that a pull through valve stem will not work??

Anyone else have the screw on full metal chrome stems???

This isn't what was on mine, but maybe the right direction.

Mine was basically two pieces. the valve was threaded on the outside with a small flange at the base. It was inserted through the hole in the rim from the inside (tire side). Then a chrome shaft (threaded on the inside) was threaded onto the valve stem. Of course there were two grommets, one inbetween the valve side and the wheel, and one between the shaft and the wheel. On mine the flange on the valve side cracked and let air leak out. I cannot find a duplicate of it.:dunno:

Which of these does it look like:

A picture of yours on your wheels would help too.

Man i'm sure that i have the stuff to help you, but with out seeing it in person i can't be for sure. It may be that it is a special stem that they only put in some ATVs awhile back. They are all bolt in stems and they always come with a bigger gromet than you need. I'm sure that the larger gromet is the one that you are needing. I honestly don't know how a tire store can't figure this out. Do you happen to have a Goodyear Store around you? They should be able to help you.

I called a goodyear shop that said your first line almost word for word. They swore they could fix it. They looked at the valve stem and said the other shops didn't know what they were talking about, a pull through would work fine. They yaned the tire off, pulled out the stem and said, WTF. None of their stems would work. Apparently the hole is smaller then the standard .453" hole. They tried putting some sealant under the current leaking one and said they slowed the leak. No charge, but wasted an hour. Worse yet I just checked it and the tire is flat, so they made it worse.
However, I found these on Ebay;

Looks like what I need. I guess we'll see. I can't believe no one else has had this problem.

Smoke,

Do your valve stems look like mine? (pictured in above post)

Your wheels look the same as mine.

Those are the correct stems. I did some checking today at work and in the late 90s there were a handful of companies that were making wheels with the smaller bolt in stem. According to my supplier it was because it was the starting of the TPMS. They were testing a solid bolt in stem. The government made them change them to full size pull threw stem so that there wouldn't be this problem down the road like now.

Ok now if those don't work for you, let me know and i can order them. I guess you can learn something new everyday.

Cool

LOL ... yea, checked and I have the same set up as ROUSHINATOR.
Although, I've gone through several sets of tires in my +100K miles and never once did I get any static from a tire shop.

Shops are just different I guess, from state to state because the Ga, Fl and Ca shops I went to had no issues.

Nothing like having a performance car in the middle of Pick-up truck plains, Indiana.

You guys get all the good shops, not to mention nice roads.
