Hey smoke where did you buy your hood and for how much? I am putting an 03 Cobra engine in my 97 Roush so I need the hood to clear the SC; you think the hood gives enough clearance?

Yes, I think the hood will provide enough clearance however, I'd find someone running the 03 Cobra set-up under a stock Cobra hood before purchase.
The gentleman you referred to earlier from Knotts is on here also. Screen Name: onerichrunner. I'll PM him to give us the 411 on the combo and the fit. Back to Topic; I purchased the hood from California Mustangs. Actual hood. Ran me about $800 total, then. However, there several online companies selling it now. Example: Mustang Specialites Parts are selling a version too. Problem is, I dont' know anyone that has purchased theirs from StangParts to speak to the quality, fit and finish of the installation. Example. Another company is Harwood They make a fiberglass version as well. Same problem though. It looks good though. |

Meil,
Were you wanting to use the cowl induction feature? FWIW, I am finally getting around to swapping heads and just for fun i threw the 3 piece intake on today and closed the hood. It fits!!! They I crumpled some AL foil (out of Play-doh) and placed it where I thought it would hit, all around the top plenum. I did get a crumple down to 1/4" or so right in the middle, at the front, opposite the TB hole, about 2" wide. I had already removed the hood liner for other reasons but the part that hits is the small rib down the middle of the hood. It could be notched to give it maybe up to 1" of clearance otherwise the rest of the hood appears to be OK. I may run the thing a bit just to see how it does since I won't have to buy a hood. I don't know if the convertible motor mounts allow this or what, and if you do try it, be gentle and measure your clearances before slamming the hood. John in TN

Hi everyone! thanks for your info on my hood problem. I am putting on the Roush intake made for the 95 stangs. John, did you put on the Roush intake and how much of the center brace did you have to notch out? How do you like the intake for performace? any feedback would be appreicated.
thanks, Neil |

Neil,
I just set it on. I'm finally getting around to swapping from my Edel. heads to the AFR's. I may run it a bit just for fun if it's not too much trouble to see how it does, but I may put a small cam like a Comp. Cam 270HR in, basicially to take advantage of the AFR's flow capacity, so I don't know how valid the comparison would be. I'm also thinking (well, day-dreaming) a bit about how to feed the Roush intake with a single turbo setup or maybe a centrifigual blower. All you need to do is run a piece of pipe to the TB inlet. I'm still running the KB blower, since it sits on top of a lower Cobra intake I can take it off in 1/2 an hour or so. Actually, I just pulled the lower manifold off, put the Roush lower on with the old intake gasket, then I just set the two other pieces on top and slowly closed the hood to check the clearance for reference. Then I decided to put the crumpled AL foil to try to measure the clearance, Play-do would give a more accurate picture. I would guess on my car their is at least 1/2" clearance. If you take a bit of time to figure out where the clearance is needed and notch the center brace (fiberglass) I would say you would have 1" of clearance of more. It will be a week or two before I can measure that again as my heads are off and I'm going to notch my pistons a bit for the cam. Again- DO NOT slam the hood unless you know your clearance is OK. Also, I have the hood liner removed on my car. You could probably leave it on or put it back on after notching but I think it would probably rub the intake. I would think a 2" notch would take care of it. I had to cut 3-4" out further back for my KB and haven't had any problems. If you really want to do it right you could grind it down and get a cheap fiberglass repair kit and lay 2-3 layers of fiberglass back down. Not sure if you have had your hood liner off but our hoods are made out of bonded fiberglass and metal. John |

Seems to fit stock hood, no cold air workie of course. I just bolted lower on lightly with old intake gasket and set middle and top on it without 2- 1/16" gaskets or bolting the uppers.
This is just my experience, verify before slamming hood. FWIW, I have a 95 vert., Edel. heads. I have a 1998 Super Ford 2-3 page article on the intake for supercharged use and they mention the SN95 hood of theirs is just about 3/4" taller, where? I don't know. Seems they didn't sale good and by 98 they were trying to sale them for use on Fox Mustangs and blower applications. It's a beautiful intake, that's for sure. I just wish I could find out some of the engineering principles used on it. Also, how to calculate the runner length. It appears the middle and top plenum are to provide a "supply" of air for the system. I'm just wondering what went into it, sure looks like engineers were involved. Looks like I'll have to read some on the BXR intake (defunct) to understand it some as I have found some literature on it. John |
