Motor swap?

Anyone want to come up to NY and help me cram this in my '98?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2420133346

It *can* be done, right? I figure thats cheaper than modding out the current 4.6

I'll just watch the auction until it closes, never bid on it, and then kick myself for not taking out a loan to improve my car - but I thought I'd dream with you all. Look at it .. isn't it pretty?

It might be far more expensive than rebuilding your 4.6. When you do a motor swap there are all kinds of additional (unexpected on the surface) expenses like wiring harnesses, cooling plumbing and hardware, exhaust, fuels systems, computer changes, AC and accessory drive issues, and that could potentially cost as much as that engine.

Think it through.

Cool

There is a site dedicated the the modular swap and it will help you decide if it is worth it.

I'd like to bid on that myself, especially since it's near my home in NC.

Go for it then Smoke

I won't end up getting it, no matter how much I want it. I don't think I have $1 to my name that isn't already promised to some bank or credit card .. and I'd definetly wanna' look into it alot further before I go through with it.

Plus, it'd pay to have someone around that did it first here I could ask questions of .. so .. buy it .. for both our sakes

Yeah .. I looked around some (didn't dig too deep or locate any sites with exactly this swap on it though).

Supposedly the '03 Cobra motor is pretty well self contained and drops in fairly easily. But, like you said, some things will have to be swapped. Mounting hardware, new exhaust .. ect ect.

I'll do more checking ... its a dream-project for me ... so it'll never be more than a dream

Kewl .. I'll check out that site some.

My car is screwed up royally now, so any money I've been saving for mods (and then some) has been pissed away into getting screwed by a local garage because my Antitheft system won't let me start my car.

They said they fixed it (took them a week) .. and I get it back and 2 drives later it won't start again. ... its back in the shop ... they better fix it right this time or ... well .. or nothing .. I'll have to take it to a Ford dealer (like I wanted to in the first place) and the garage will be several hundred dollars richer than before they started.

I am currently in the process of swapping an 03 Cobra engine into my 97 GT. As for the shop charging you and not fixing your car, I say call the BAR, you will get your money back and the shop will be the ones who get screwed. Trust me just call the BAR, don't screw yourself. In case you didn't know BAR stands for Bearuea of Automotive Repair. Good luck.
