98 S2 vs 2000 GT. Odd outcome.(long)

A friend of mine came down to join in on a bachelors bash last Friday with his 2000 GT vert. After being destroyed by my 95 (out of tune even) a while back, I knew he'd be itching to try my S2. I took him for a spin in the car and he was impressed. When he asked if I'd run him I obliged (yeah I know I'm wrong for that). Anyway I found a backroad and we lit'em up for a couple of back to back runs. I beat him (barely) the first run and he beat me by a bumper on the second run. I was tickled because I told him his GT should beat me flat out, but on both runs I killed him off the line and he would start pulling even by the finish line(roughly 2 blocks). I thought maybe his heavy ass rims (20's if you believe it) were slowing him down but that factor could be offset by my ground effect and 18's. My ride is stock as it concerns the engine (I mean paper filter even) but it seems to pull a signifigantly harder than most stock SOHC 4.6's I've rode including some PI 4.6's. Maybe its in my head. My track times are embarassing but the car still feels great. Do you folks have any insight on this?

I have no insight, But I have the samething as you, my car is relatively stock, beside the intake, but I have pulled many of GTs off the line, I dont know what is up with the car, but its wierd, and its definately not just in my head, RoushV6 sense it to, and if 2 or more peoplel sense it than it must be true.

Cool

Well not all stock results are the same.

Proof in point.

Good run, sounds like ROUSH has earned another fan through respect.

But, really, I've seen my 98s run strong against the 99-00s with similar mods. Maybe it's the driver maybe it was the tune - either way I when the 99+ vs 96-98 wars seem to start it really depended on other factors.

Congrats.

Thanks! The beating was so thorough that before my homie was only considering a Roush kit, afterward he spoke of it as a certainty and had plenty of questions. You know what they say: If you cant' beat'em.... On the other hand another friend wnats to run me in his modded 2000 Stage II before I transfer. I won't B.S. with him though so I'll have to break out the evil twin to take him out.
