S3 Boost Questions

Being new to the supercharged side of the game I have a few questions and would like some help from all of you. (the experts)

Upping the boost using the smaller pulley (2.8 I think) does that hurt the motor or trip out the computer in anyway?

Cold air intake, Is it a yeah or a nay?

X-pipe, same Questoin?

Ive heard a number of things about modding these cars and they blow up! Please tell me it isnt so

You can add a cai and no problems will occur unless you have a air leak.
That happened to a guy in Ca.and it went up in smoke.
Add the x-pipes and the exhaust( any kind you want )but you must keep the O2 sensors in place.
I feel you can put up to 8-9lbs. of boost with out major problems.
The problem is the bottom end is only safe up to 450hp or so.
That means any combination you may use should stay around this number to be safe.
If you do not care add it all on and see what happens. jim

Sounds good do you have any combinations in mind that will achieve right around 420hp

I believe the Roush computer depends on them for adjusting A/F mappings constantly. The coding Roush did I believe is constantly "learning" so to speak always trying to keep the safest ratio yet while optimizing power.

Well if you look at my sig.
I have roughly 405 at the flywheel now with the 380 tune so that plus the 2.8 pulley will get you in the 420 at the flywheel hp.

If you don't want to pay the $$$ for the ecu upgrade, get the 2.8 pulley some headers and a high flow intermediate pipe with cats, and the cold air induction.

Roushguy gave some good advise after 400hp at the flywheel the stock engine is anybody's guess on how long it will last.

You have to remember these engines were built to sustain 260hp and we are really pushing the envelope at 400hp.

Well, that's not necessarily true. The MIL elims actually go to the rear set of O2 sensors, which are AFT cat. I'm pretty sure the readings for A/F mapping adjustment is done on the O2 sensors before the cats to get a true reading. I also think the MIL elims just prevent the car from throwing the SES light, they don't actually make those O2 sensors not work...how, I'm not really sure. I think they just prevent the O2 sensors from going over a certain voltage which is the voltage threshold that throws the SES light, but I'm not 100% sure on that last part

P.s.
I like the magnaflow x-pipe and exhaust but you will find some various opinions about that around here.

Jim:

I am curious about your saved up goodies. Since you put out the bait, what are your plans to complement the new ECU? I just ordered one. Thanks as always for the all seeing and all knowing posts.
