CAIs...the good and the bad

Okay guys, I've read SO MANY different posts, on this and other forums, that try to make an argument for what type of CAI is better than another. Can someone clear this up?

Some problems I've read about:

(1) CAIs w/ 90 deg. bend causes problems like stalling, rich condition (eg. DC on '03 Cobras)

I have this kit and have not stalled...ever. Now, it DOES seem like my car runs rich sometimes...kinda sluggish. While other times, it screams.

(2) Open Element Filter CAIs (those with and without heat shields) can get wet.

Can the filter on these systems get wet? Or is the hood preventing that? And, how effective is that heat shield? You can't tell me that it's a perfect seal from the engine...the air around the shield should be hot from the engine and the filter is pulling air from all sides...not just the fenderwell.

(3) Drop-in K&N w/ trimmed or removed silencer is just as good as a CAI?

T or F.

That's it. I just want to be informed. Since I have the DC meter fwd kit...I could buy their underhood conversion kit ($35).

Thanks.

my opinion...the 90deg elbow thing is BS. Alright, I have to admit, you ultimately want the air to make as little turns as possible, but come on, it's not like its a real sharp turn!

I've tried 4 different CAI's, here is what I've found:

MAC= piece 'O S*it
Roush = good CAI
Densecharger = best CAI on the market
Steeda = good CAI

I have RO2USH's old Denscharger full kit and I love it so far.
I have had to clean the MAF sensor off once, not sure why there was build up on it at all.
I guess the K&N may have had too much oil on it?
It is nothing a little rubbing alcohol didn't take care of.

The theory of the heat build up in metal VS non metal piping always made me wonder if there was any truth to the idea that plastic or Carbon fiber is beter than metal?
