Drag Radials Revisited

A search on "drag radials" didn't answer my questions so don't beat me if this has been discussed to death already.

I am going to buy a pair of drag radials for my "Prime" style Roush wheels. I have 18x10 rears.

BFG now offers a 345/30 18 in their g-force drag radial.

Has anyone tried to stuff that tire under their 99+ mustang or should I stick with the 295/35s? How dangerous is a 345 section width on a 10" wheel? I figure it will go on and should stay seated.

FYI - BFG lists them as the same diameter (26.2") so it will fit if it doesn't rub the inner fender well.

TIA -
Doc

Yes, I saw those too. But, I want "fatter" meats than 295. I guess I could just buy them and try it. What the heck.... I'd only be out about $500.

Mark, I am trying to keep the diameter up b/c I have a 3.73 gear. If I am right the 315 is almost an inch shorter than the 295 and the 345 (in the 18s at least).

Aren't all equal dimension sidewall series in the same line the same overall height?

i.e., BFG KD's, 265/35/18 = 295/35/18 = 315/35/18 = 345/35/18 as far as overall height?

I edited my original post. It now correctly reads 345/30-18 instead of 345/35-18. Sorry if that created confusion.

I posted similar threads on Mustangworld and Stangnet. Most popular response was "NO a 345 is too wide."

Guess I'll stick with 295/35-18.

The only thing is the 315/30-18 is 35.6" tall and the 295/35-18 9s 36.2" tall.

Maybe I wouldn't notice the 0.4" difference.

if the 315 is smaller in height thats a GOOD thing! the smaller the height the easier it is to turn, just like gears, the smaller they are the easier they are to turn.

But part of my problem like all S3s, 360/380Rs, and JRCs is the roots blower makes so much bottom end power - the tires spin easily already.

I guess theoretically you could gain enough grip with more width to cancel that out but I already have a 3.73 gear and I think it is too much gear. Shorter tires effectively lowers the final drive ratio.

Maybe Bullitt308 could chime in... he's seems to be an expert in those types of things.....(hint hint Bullitt308).

I have 315/30/18 on the back and they grip like crazy. I'm also running 275/35/18 on the front and they are a little "taller" then the back, I like the width on the front and they don't rub... but it would look better if they where 30's on the front.
