tire sizes

what is the best tire size for my 18x10's, i have those Kumho pieces of crap right now and with my new combo(P1SC 10#'s) and my 3.27's i just cant get any traction in first, second, and little bit of third.

its terrible, she just hangs it sideways when you mash on the throttle in second. Mainly just because these tires arent for drag racing.

But, what is the best size, and what tires would you suggest?

I'm thinking he already has that size but in the Khumo's.. not sure though.

I will add that I have the BFG G-Force T/A Drag Radials in the 295's... and they work well, takes all that 3rd gear spin out and alot of the 2nd and makes it alot more controlable. They dont have the longest life span but they work... I would suggest going with the 315's though... that would work much better and simply look baddass... a 315 drag radial is a big ass tire...

Well.. the 315's are going to be wider, wider=more rubber=more traction.

If I remember correctly the size is 315/30/18...

I dont have the 315's but you can get them from tirerack.com or your local discount tire or other tire retailer.

Has anyone tried to run the 295's on the front instead of the 265's??? Will they fit? I hate having 2 sizes...

I think 295's would probably be too much for the front. I had 275's on my old GT and they tracked all over the place. I'm pretty sur they would rub at full turn as well.....

I've got 295's in the front. Been on the car since it left Roush. I actually like the way they fit on the front. They stick out of the fenderwell about a 1/4 inch or so and there is no rubbing at all.

Markass, I'd imagine having more rubber on the front would help with handling.

No kidding, Roush put those?
You don't have any problems with them wanting to follow the ruts in the road at all? Any pics?

im here to clear it up. if you want a balanced and mean look, go w/ 265 on the front and 295 on the back, or 275 front and 315 back.

and wider= more rubber on ground does NOT equal better traction. its in the sidewall. why do you think a stock GT w/ 295 18x10s can rip the tires loose? and no, it's not cuz he's putting down 5000000 HP. if the side wall cant flex, it wont give, and it wont catch pavement, it'll just smoke them off. taller sidewall is more traction.

btw, you dont need drag radials, just learn to drive. i have 3.73 gear in my stage 3 and it put down 370hp and 380 tq to the wheels.

What about on the 17" rims????? Has anyone sized up on those?

If so, how big?

I'm thinking of going from the 245/45/17 to @ 265/50/17
That will give me a wider tire, and a little less 4x4 look. Anyone know if it would fit?

Wider does not equal better handling either and it's still in the sidewalls. Most, if not all, tire manufacturers list a range of recommended rim widths for a particular size tire. You'll probably get the best sidewall response staying within the recommended width.

I dont know about anyone else, but im not real concerned with width or how the tire looks, I already have some bad ass Roush rims so im more interested in TRACTION

What tire brand and size is goin to give me the best traction for my 18x10's

Well I knew about the sidewall helping with strait line traction, but didn't realize it was that big of a deal in turns too. The tires I have on the front ARE the right sized tires for the rims. All 4 of my rims are 10" wide.

Yup, I talked with the original owner a few weeks ago for the first time about the car and he told me Roush put those rims and tires on the car. As far as them wanting to follow ruts in the road, they do pull but nothing too major. It's only really noticable in really deep ruts or major road damage.

This is the only picture I have that really shows the front tires and isn't from 30 feet away:
