Roush short throw shifter

I just completed Roush STS install and I do believe it is a must mod for any mustang owner. I didn't think their would be hugh difference between stock and short tri-ax, but their is a HUGH difference. The stock shifter is not even in the league. I loved driving my car before, but now I love driving more than ever.

zinc-s18...

Congrats on completing THE FIRST mod a Mustang owner should do if the car does not already have it.

BTW, it's "huge", not "hugh"... I am the official spell-checker for the site...

Zinc,

I know how you feel. I waited forever before I bought the Steeda Tri-Ax shifter. I figured that there couldn't be that much difference.

Boy was I wrong. Glad to see somebody else has seen the light too.

Yes huge (hugh) diff and love it as well...funny thing is is I am always checking like a million times to see if it is out of gear when I start it up and let out the clutch.

Yeah, Justin, that reassuring side-slap neutral "click" is habit forming...

I was seriously considering getting the shifter...BUT I heard a number of complaints that, after the install, the shifter console was real loud, like metal against metal??

Did you find this to be true after your install??

I didn't hear any metal to metal noise, but their was an increase road noise via the tranny tunnel. Gear shifter noise is about the same for me, ie the shifter noise.

Ok guys a question for someone who has put the classic shifter handle on and sent their bezel (SP?) back to Roush to be re-booted: I disconnected the lighter as Kev shows in his how-to instructions but do I somehow remove the rest of the lighter unit from the bezel before sending it to Roush or does this piece remain in the bezel? Thanks for any help!

damn, gotta a problem putting on the classic shifter. Kev's instructions show several pieces I don't have. The leather handle is just simply bolted on. No c-clamp, rubber pieces etc. Just two bolts w/washers. These bolts are way too small for the classic handle as they pass right through the bolt holes. Therefore, this handle can't be installed as is. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Lighter- Yes you do remove press in the clips on side and pull out.

As for the bolts you need to use your oem pieces.

That's the problem! All I have are the bolts. None of the other pieces you show are here. There were only the 2 bolts holding the current handle on. Nothing else. No other oem parts. The 2 bolts are much too small for the classic handle. They just pass completely through the bolt holes on the classic handle. Sometimes I just can't win for losing!! Thanks for the reply. It is appreciated!

So your shifter that you are replacing is NOT oem then? Is so, that is likely your trouble. If your current shifter is NOT OEM, than whomever put it in probably chucked the factory bolts and clips.

I guess I'm a little slow here. When you mention the oem pieces I think I have figured out that you are talking about pieces from the original shifter and not from the Roush installed short throw shifter. The short throw shifter handle has none of these oem parts shown or discussed so I have to assume these pieces should be on the original shifter which I have never seen since the car came witht the short throw shifter already installed. I contacted a Ford dealership about these oem pieces and their computer shows there are none of these pieces in the state of GA at this time. Went by Mustangs Unlimited and they don't carry any of these pieces. So........ I guess I will call Roush Monday to see if they can send me these pieces when they send my bezel and boot back. We'll see. Thanks for the responses!
