Is Explorer 4.6 the same?

Does anyone know if the 2002 Explorer 4.6 is the same longblock as the mustang gt? I know i will have to change the intakes and clutch assembly and maybe even the timing cover. What about the rest of the specs? Like the bolt pattern on the crank or the crank specs themselves? PI heads?

Help plz//

There is a bank of information somewhere about this. I only know it exists, but where it is I cant remember.

They are pretty close, but if I remember correctly, made at different factories with different castings. Seems like the Explorers have an aluminum block, but could be wrong.

Try posting the question in the appropriate forum at www.blueovalnews.com . There are a lot of Ford employees on the board who know.

Actually the 4.6 in the F-150 is not the same as the Explorer 4.6. There are significant differences, cam profiles and heads.

I believe Shay is right, the Explorer 4.6 block is the same, just aluminum (i.e. lighter). The rest of your questions are too specific for me, try shooting TJM01 a PM, he had an Explorer block and I'm not sure if he ended up using it or not; but he could at least probably give you the answers real quick.

Quite a bit actually.

Staying within the longblock conversation the heads, cams, rods, and crank are different. These are tuned for torque and high wear loads.

Beyond that they have completely different intake and exhaust and accessory drives.

While all the motors are 4.6's there are like 3-4 versions of the 2v motor that are not necessarily interchangeable.
