Oil question.

I changed my oil today and since my car didnt come with a manual I got on the net and did a search for how many quarts to put in. I thought the 4.6 took six but I came across a couple posts that states the 99s and 00s took 5. I was just wondering if anyone could confirm this. I have 5 quarts in the car right now and Im gonna let it sit for a while and check it and add the other quart if it needs it.

Also, I only drained a little more than 4 quarts. If the car does take 5, is it normal to burn about a quart every 3,000 miles or so?

Thanks.

Tom

You may have only drained four but don't forget the oil filter holds about a 1/2 quart .

Also Ford says 1quart per 800 miles is normal.

Tom, also keep in mind that the Vortec also uses up some oil, so I'd say 5 1/2 should do it, I think that's about what it usually takes.

That sounds like a bit much. I'd be scared if my car burned 1 quart per 800 miles!!! My F150 has 150,000+ miles on it and it only burns about 1/4 of a quart between changes (3000k). Did you mean 1 quart per 8000 miles?

In '88 my F150 burned 1 qt. /850 miles. Ford said perfectly normal. My buddies F150 same year burned 1 qt/ 800 miles, he got a new engine! He kept his, I sold my LEMON!

All my Fords before that 88 and since burn no oil in 3000 to 5000 miles. Even my beater 98 Escort with 115K doesn't burn any oil at all! I think my daughter only changed the oil in it 5 or 6 times it's whole life.

Mine used to take 5, now it takes 6...damn mods. Yes 99-00 Windsor blocks 99% of the time take 5.

I've always known it to be about 5.5 qts. A little bit more than 5, but 6 is way too much.
