Shifting noise, you guys got any ideas/suggestions???

I have a 360R with 17,000 miles on it. It has just started to "grind" when I shift into third gear unless I take it rather slow. I believe the car has a B & M shifter in it that the previous owner installed. There is nothing stamped on the shifter indicating it's origin(brand or model). The car had 2,800 miles on it when I bought it.
Any ideas/suggestions???

Sounds like you simply need a new clutch. Put in a heavy duty clutch instead of the stock replacement.

if its a B&M i would also look at the adjuster bolts. Had a similar problem when I installed a B&M in my roush.

That shouldn't be the problem. Only a slipping clutch would cause an actual "grinding" of the gears.

The grinding has gotten A LOT worse!!! It is almost impossible to to upshift or downshift into third without a lot of grinding. It sounds to me like the sycros are shot. I read a few posts on the 'net about this being a problem with Mustang trannys, not just on Roush models.
Do you guys know of any service bulliteins that refer to tranny problems??? I would like to get this fixed under warranty, but I think Ford may be a little hesitant since the car has been modified by Roush. I am going to check with the closest Roush dealer today to see if they can help me.

PT...pull the cover to your boot. Then the rubber noise reduction cover, Then look at the top/engine side adjustment bolt. Take it to wher its almost out set it there and see if your problem continues. Its what I had to do when I installed my B&M. Did it and now have 50K + miles on it with out a problem.

PS...it would be better for you to find this then a shop that ill charge you to do it. Also ford wont cover an adjust ment to a aftermarket sifter under warrenty.

I agree with everyone else. Check the adjustable stop bolts to see if they have worked loose. If that is not the case then I would look at some other problem. If you can not resolve the issue by adjustment, let me know since I have a factory shifter I could send you to pop in long enough to take it to a dealer for service. Also I have a friend that works in the service department for one of our local Ford dealers. If you get any crap about warranty work and modifications, let me know and I will hook you up with him. I have heavy modifications and they never question anything when I take my car to them. I know you are in Winston Salem so you are not that far away.
