ALCON Brake Dust Hell

Roush owners w/ Alcon Brake option, do you get EXCESSIVE brake dust on your FRONT wheels? I bought the car w/ 7900 miles on it, the rear tires are BFG's Comp T/As, (not G-Force, like the fronts) -- do you think the dealer put new (read: wrong) pads in the front? No, I haven't taken the wheel/caliper off to check, just wondering if I'm alone in this (or not).

Thanks.

Welcome to slotted 14" 4 piston dust lovin' central. Yes, all of them put off a lot of brake dust, you can however replace the pads with lower dust creating pads. Not sure which they are or who makes them, but 2001 #92 or Roush2k will probably chime in because I know at least one of them has the answer if not someone else

ahh...I just love cleaning mine.

I'm afraid it's normal for the large Alcon set up.

I had the worse time cleaning my Argent wheels. With my Bullitts, it's much better.

I use Hawk HPS pads, front and rear. They put off a lot less dust than the stock pads (I think they're from SBS).

I use my car as a daily driver and since it's a vert it probably won't see much (if any) track time.

I still have more dust than a stock GT, but it's nowhere near what the stock Roush pads put off. You can search the threads for the part numbers. I don't remember them off hand.

I agree - the HPS pads are much better.

Amazing thing about this car - the brake dust has been my only real complaint. With the hundreds of parts they change out, I think that is pretty amazing. Dust is my problem...

HB105 is the part number for fronts (Alcon type B). There will be a letter after the part number for the pad compound. I don't remember the code for HP+.

The rear pads are stock Cobra (not GT). The part number is HB183.585. The Cobra and GT pads are the same shape but the Cobra pads are slightly thinner for the bigger Cobra rotors.

Hawk now offers a ceramic compound which should provide less dust. I haven't tried them.
