As far as i know there is no one making the 2001-up vert pods.
Maybe they are now but i got in on a special purchase and a company built them for us guys over on stangnet. I have been looking for them but have not seen any for sale. The reason it seems is that the federal crash rules as of 2001 included the pillars. They were not included before 2001. So if someone gets hurt in a accident then they will be sued for the changes. The part needs to be crash tested etc...Let me know if you find any.jim

What I understand from memory is that you go to the junkyard and get an A-pillar trim piece for a 2000 and older convertible and make it fit with minor filing. You also may need to paint it to match. Then you get the guage pod for that year and away you go.
I think Kev did this, as well as a few others. Look beyond the FORUM, as fn-sweet.com also has a website with how-to-articles. Here is the one for guage pods. http://www.fnsweet.com/garage/gauge/index.shtml |

Autometer definately does not make one for 02s. But this is a nice alternative to the A-pillar mounting location: http://www.stage3motorsports.com/index.cgi?product=378 OOps, now that I posted this, the linked item appears to be only for coupes Good luck anyway.

They will not list the A pillar for '01 and newer and I talked to them about that. The issue is Ford or the Federal government considers the plastic A Pillar cover as a structual part of the car. Legally they can't say it will work on those cars. In reality it does fit with some minor sanding of the top edge to match the curve of the stock pillar. |

Hi guys,
It's been a little while since I've stopped by on this forum, but the link provided by Roushinator showed up in my website stats and I followed it back to this dicussion. The pods in the link he provided are made by my company, Speed of Sound LLC. Spending the last 2 years around mustang a-pillars gives me a little insight into what's on the market and the changes implemented by Ford. The info posted above by Roushguy about the pillar change being for crash safety purposes is spot-on. For whatever reason, the convertibles changed first, then the coupes followed several years later. The original SN-95 pillars were one piece injection molded ABS plastic with metal retaining clips. The vert first, then the coupes in 03, changed to a three piece polypropylene plastic pillar. The new version includes the pillar cover, a foam insert, and a plastic subframe assembly with mounting clips. My company does make pillars for every car made from 94-04, coupe or vert. My product uses an oem ford pillar which is cnc-machined for our injection molded pod. All oem fit, finish, texture is retained, and the crash material remains in place. Hope this info is helpful in some way. It was of interest to me, and I thought it would be a good idea to drop in and say hi. Alan |
