brake question

I was wondering what type of brakes and rotors people are using on their cars. I am not talking about break upgrades... just something to upgrade the stock system on a GT because I have 370 hp and was trying to find something like cross drilled rotors and some kind of pads... any info will be helpful.

Unless you're going to be doing something that you NEED them, they'll just be for purdyness. The OEM Ford pads are just fine, I went with the Hawk pads on the front, and it's horrible, I can drive to work and back and my wheels will be COPPER from all the brake dust I went with some rotors that started off as Brembo blanks, then were cross drilled/slotted, they look neat, like i said that's about all they're good for unless you're actually going to be doing some hardcore braking.

Not to be rude bro! But do a "SEARCH" on brakes.
You will find everything you ever wanted to know about brakes.

You have to swap out the front GT calipers if you want better braking. Cobra PBRs are not bad and cheap. For rotors, I like the Baer EradiSpeed rotors. They are slotted and cross-drilled.

cheap upgrade is PBR /Bear/Cobra/Bullitts with 13" front disk(just about any will do for normal)

From Gt up Look at a set of Brembo 4-piston calipers (like used on the Cobra R)

If you already have PBR or $$ then look into the Alcons , Stop Tech or willwood (6-piston). Dont remember the alcon or stop tech cost but the will's are about 1200.oo for calipers , Eradi speed type Hat-rotors and SB Brake lines. ( I am looking into them as the next upgrade for the roush. Esp sice I am over 400+ RWHP). I know what your worried about ando I dont think the stock GT calipers are worth it even if you were still NA.

best of luck in your choice..

Hey markass-

What hawk pads you running?? HPS or HP plus. Just wondering because I know if you got the hp plus like I did they make alot of brake dust. They stop very well with my baer setup though. They they also squeak like a mother in town. Just wondering which ones you got because I am think of going to the HPS type to get rid of the brake dust and squeak.

As I recall, it was just the HPS, which are recommended for just evreyday use but perform a little better, without excessive dust. I am going back to OEM Ford pads, they lasted about 50,000 miles, served their braking purpose fabulously, never squeaked a once, and barely any dust.

I went with Cobra PBR (same as stock GT but will allow 13" Rotors) and a set of Brembo Cross drilled/slotted rotors. Also the most important thing to do is add the stainless brake lines. When it gets hot the rubber ones tend to expand.

OH yeah almost forgot that about the steel lines. Also make sure you get some good fluid. I think the shop I goto uses motul. I had swapped my brakes from my old 97 when I wrecked it and the brakes never really felt as solid as before. Until I got my new pads and better fluid. I used some cheap crap before. Now they feel great!

Thanks Markass, I think I will go back to the stuff that came with the baer brake kit as it had less noise, less dust, and I know they work.
