Exhaust help!

I went to a custom muffler and exhaust guy to help put on a roush side exhoust on my 99 cobra convertable because i love the way it looks. he told me that with my subframe conectors the exhaust would be to low to the ground and i would have no ground clearance! Depressing. But he did said he coule tuck my exhaust up in the car behind the bumper hiding it, then mounting the roush exaust tips and routing a smaller pipe frome the main pipe to keep some what functionable. He said he would widen my pipes and i could keep my horse power and the deep sound.I dont know? Its a real delema, tell me what you guys think about this. Practible or not?

Cobra so IRS, and vert so it has the subframes, not Roush, which are one of two types compatible with the Roush exhaust, the other being Spintech.

YA i talked to the guys at spintech and they are going to hook me up with the parts and install for about 800. They said i could keep my ground clearance, all they will do is cut a part of my sub frame contectors. sounds good. what do you think?

There are a few ways, two that come to mind, that you can install full length REAL subframe connectors, not the toothpics that come on the Roush's.

First and easiest way is the spintech subframes that "step-up". I'm pretty sure a few people went this route, I know of at least two that did. Nice clean setup, very little "custom work" required to make it work.

Second, you can get hardcore if you really want. I did and lost maybe 1/4"-1/3" clearance by installing Griggs SFCs, and having the shop weld-in custom drop tubes (from Bassani I believe) right at the spot of the side exhaust where the pipe crosses the SFCs. The "drop tube" allows the exhaust to tuck up against the SFCs, but can rattle unless you weld it or secure it. I had mine welded to the SFCs and well, it became a very rough ride. I was fine with it because my car was overall a stiff SOB and I wanted it rough because I wanted to "feel" the track...however I would say it was too hardcore and too rough for probably 97%+ of owners.

Third would be to dump the exhaust and not worry about anything.

just had the same job that you are talking about done to my GT i ordered the magnaflows that roush uses and the guy that did my just bent the pipes to fit perfectly there was a spot already made under the car to place the pipes out the side the spot however wasnt exactly the right size so he had to grind it a little but worked great, your car being a cobra might be diffrent but i was told the same thing they told you at first then after looking over the car again they decided it could be done
