Hp loss due to Alcon brake kit?

Anyone out there know how much Hp is loss due to the Roush Alcon kit(13" rotor vs stock)? Think about it for a non-supercharged application.

The only differance is that the car weights a little more with the Alcons

yes, there will be some hp loss to the wheels, because the diameter of the brakes is larger (unless you didnt change the rear's). The larger size creates more inertia. i remember someone with a brembo kit said they lost around 4-6hp to the wheels.

That is what I figured, the extra rotating mass. I just didn't know if anyone had clue on the range.

Thanks

Someone nees to weigh the rotors from stock to 13in and 14inch to figure out the hp loss. I would say less than 5hp total. jim

yea, nothing more than 6 hp lost tho. thats not too bad of a drop (i assure you, you wont notice the difference). and its a saftey thing too, cause you can stop faster.

I'd like to know how they determined that considering the front tires don't move on a dyno.

Second, how much gas you have in the car will have a bigger weight impact than the difference in rotors.

The last time I was at the track I weighed my car with a half tank of gas and the Roush PBR set-up and it weighed 3400lbs, Now with the Alcons on I did the same thing, Half tank of gas and it was 3430lbs.
I ran one one hundrenth slower with almost the same 60 foot, yet my E.T was up 1.5 MPH
PBR set-up
R/T- .501
60' 2.082
1/4 mile 13.255 @108.39

Alcon set-up
R/T.585
60' 2.163
1/4 mile 109.99

Both times were on the same tires. BFG KD G-Force

You don't "lose" hp you just have to use more to get you car to accelerate. Also it has been said that 10 pounds of rotating mass (brakes, rims, tires, driveline, and transmission) can alter your quarter mile times by a tenth.

It is the same as if you put heavier rims on the car. You would get slower acceration. There is a bunch of formulas in physics that help to figure out these things but I haven't done that stuff in a long time.

Heck if you feel up to it give Roush a call. Maybe they got some numbers they would share. Well maybe not as it is probably classified information and if your not driving one of their Nascars then your not allowed to know.

Just replace the flywheel with an aluminum one and then get the aluminum drive shaft! That should balance you back out and you get to keep your killer brakes!!!

I agree with this assesment.

Also the 13" kit is not a Alcon setup. Its a PBR/cobra/Bullitt setup. I had no hp loss when I installed mine. Just have more stopping power at speed.
