May build my motor

Talking to these guys http://www.steenracing.com/products.htm
$6,300 for the build
Cobra crank
good pistons & rods
7qt oil pan
working the heads
Cams
etc.
I will post the estimate when I get it.
I may do a SC change down the road also.
Any tips or input would be great.

Looks good. I have talked to my mechanic about these things, and the only thing he says is that you have to do the whole engine (block, rotating assembly. . .) if you are going to do it.

I haven't heard of Steen before but looks like a solid shop. You probably heard True Blue Performance here in NC is closing down.

I am looking here!! http://www.trueblueperformance.com/e...ding/Strokers/

They are right up the road from where I live and from what I understand build some pretty solid motors. I have never had work done there but several of my friends have and never had issues. The prices are reasonable.

Did not know about that! I also considered Haywood Custom Speed but I know they stay so busy. For that matter I might just buy the rest of the parts I need and do it myself.

Been there done that...........Its takes alot to make a 2v get close to a Basic ported Cobra, let alone if they are sprayin which most are now

It takes a alot of money to get a mid 10 2 valve but its common with Cobras

You might check out DSS or VT engines. I can't say much about any others as I have not read much about them. The only thing I do know is that you need to find a shop that can work on modular motors. There are a lot of shops that had great stuff for the old 5.0 liter but don't have a clue about the 4.6. Things like the flatness of the mating surfaces of the heads and block. Ford has even said that the majority of machine shops cannot get the mating surfaces flat enough because they don't have a machine that can do it.

This is moot point if you are getting a new block but what about the heads you plan on getting. Just trying to make you aware. That is why I recommended VT engines. They are a modular only shop. But they do cost a bit more. I think for a full longblock oil pan to valve covers will cost about 7k.
