Tranny change

Hey all,
Quick question for you all. I am sure you have all noticed the dead spot between 4th and 5th gear. My roush happens to need a sixth gear. I know the cobra's have a six speed tranny and was wondering how difficult the conversion from the GT tranny to the Cobra tranny would be. If anyone has any info on this it would be appreciated.

lots have done this, i know someone has on this site also. basically you need the t-56 tranny, new bell housing and prob new ecu, maybe not. but check out ddperformance.com they run lots of tranny adds.

D&D Performance has swap kits. In short, you will need a T-56, a shortened driveshaft (I think the current Cobra driveshaft is too short, so the one you need is between stock and cobra, i.e. 1/2" shorter than stock), modified crossmember, a reverse lockout switch hooked up to the brakes (so it lets you into reverse easy when you press on the brakes) and that's about it. No new ECU is needed considering you're going from 5 spd to 6 spd and it doesn't do anything regarding the tranny. Most of the T-56s come with an integrated bellhousing, or is included...but yeah, the bolt pattern to the T-56 is slightly different than your current.
