swap 4.6L for 5.4L??

Hello all, has anyone tried to put a 5.4L in their stang yet?? I have one and was wondering if it would work and what all extra would be involved. the guy building it said it should fit but will be 1 inch taller and a half inch wider and i would have to get a different hood. If anyone has heard of someone doing this or if it will even work, some info would be awsome!! thanks in advance.

A girl who used to live across the street was dating a guy who put a 2V 5.4L in his Saleen. He said he had to use a tubular K-member to get it to fit, and the headers were a pain in the butt. He said the tune wasn't that hard. I can't think of all the extra stuff he put in it.

He had a huge blower on it, and it stuck through the hood. Then he fried the transmission and the rear end. When he fixed it, he put it back to stock and sold it. But it had torque for days.

Good luck

Yeah you should be able to get all the parts you need from the Cobra R. It was a tight fit but it will go in the car. jim

Actually I have a 4.6 4v that I am putting in. The Navi engine was just not that available. I went with the Aviator engine that is the same as the 03 Mach1.

So far I have

Engine
Spec 2 clutch
Billet Flywheel
Longtube Headers
Ported and Polished Cobra intake
Polished and port matched 65mm throttle body

Width-wise you're fine, it'll fit. You'll more than likely need a k-member, and of course a hood with taller clearance and intake work. It has been done, numerous people have done it (just none really that I can think of on here), and I even saw a gentleman on my F150 board who put a new 5.4L 3V in his older 94 or something like that and removed the variable cam timing. If you're going to do this, don't sell yourself short...get at least the 3V, preferably a 4V though.

I remenbewr reading somewhere that 5.4 fits, and bolts up to trans. But biggest pain is intake. There were guy in stangnet that stick 5.4 in his SN95.
It would be cool if its easy enough to do, as 5.4 off of E-line is cheap enough...

OOOHH May be V-10 off of those might fit???

The V10 will fit with little modding. As for the intake on the 5.4 I would say use the one from Sullivan racing as it is made to fit under most stock hood. I know for a fact it fits under the stock Cobra hood.

I have looked into this every which way I could. I just could not find a good 5.4 that was less then 2K. If you are going to go all the way then you can get a bare block and have at it. This would only make sense if you were looking to go HIGH boost or lots of nitrous. I would really only do the 5.4 DOHC as the single is just a stroked 4.6 and again unless you are boosting you are only getting some more torque. The DOHC really has some nice HP and TRQ when it is tuned right.
