Gas tank never fills up! WTF

Ok so I have had the classic since Feb. Since then closest the gas gauge needle has gotten was right below the full level line and that has happened only twice and both times I had gas coming back out of the tank!
When I fill it up, she will always click off at about ¾ full of a tank.

Has any one else experienced this? Is this a common prob.?
Could it possibly be that I am at high elevation? (3-4 thousand feet above sea level)

Luckily I still have my warranty so if the prob does not correct it slef when I get to New England I will take her to the dealership to see if they can fix it!

Yes, I had the same problem with my Stage 3. It has something to do with the level in the tank...

The Float is not level and the dealer can rebend it to work the way designed. All though we had the dealer fix it once, it happened again!

Could be a few things ...bad connection ....a small hole in the float.... bad gauge....if it's still under warranty ...let Ford fix it

RClassic, I had the same problem with my 360.....the gas gage never went to the top although the gas tank was full.....I noticed the problem soon after taking it home from the dealer.....I took the car back to the dealer, Brandon Ford, and they fixed the problem....I think it was the float assembly....it should be covered under your warranty.

Same here, my S3 has done this since day one. I've just lived with it.

I had a similar problem. The guages never read full, took it back to the dealer and they fixed it. It was the placement of the needles when they changed the white Roush guages that were not placed right.

I’m surprised that so many people have been experiencing this.

I was thinking that it might be the two cobra fuel pumps Roush puts in the gas tank, Combined with what ever they use to keep gas flowing to the pump.
Correct me if I’m wrong but Roush fuel pump and tanks are desienged to take high forced turns with low amounts of fuel in the gas tank and able to keep fuel flowing to the pumps under uneven force.

So to do this you must have some type of foam in the tank to drastically minimize the gas from splashing side to side and to keep gas flow in to the pumps.

So in theory the more stuff you add into gas tank the less space their will be for gas!
Essentially 16 gallon tank with all that stuff in there might be 14 and a half!

Ok I am thinking about this way to much! It’s probably just the needle as dmustangracer stated or the float assembly as many of you other have stated!

I need to get a life!!!

well i will say that my gas guage seems to read correct on the JRC and did also on my 01GT. i've never had an issue filling up or using almost all the gas in the tank. the gas tank holds 15.7 gal and both cars i've put in over 15 at one point to see how far i could go on a tank. So i don't think the capacity of the S3's has been decreased.

If I'm not mistaken I think the fuel tanks in our Roushes have baffles in them to keep the fuel from sloshing around....at least that's what I heard from the dealer....correct if I'm wrong though.

Thumbs up

Actually it is not a baffle per say it is a resevoir type insert with a check valve.
It lets fuel in but on hard turns prevents it from sloshing away from the pumps and starving them for fuel. It holds about 2-3 quarts. I have seen this install first hand up at RP.

As for the guage yes it is fairly common and it is the placement of the needle my indiglows read 7/8's at full tank.
I had corrected this on my white faced overlays but On the indiglows it does not bother me to be an 1/8th off to the better.
