If you are comparing the 03/04 Cobra to the 01-04 Stage 3; then that topic has come up many, many times. Usually ends up in a big pissing match. Use the search function and you should find a lot of threads about this.

If you're looking at an 03/04 Cobra vs an 06 Stage 3; then that's a new one. A no-brainer to me; go with the newer car. Build quality alone makes the newer ones better.

Was the Cobra stock? I ask because it seems so few of them are. My .02? Big grins either way...

I faced a similar dilemma about four weeks ago; for my decision, look at my sig....

so i gather there is no difference in hp the sales man said the 04 cobra had 390 hp the 2006 stage 3 has 415, there should be some kind of difference,& that cobra took that on ramp corner to the free way so fast i talk out of the side of my mouth to this day.

I don't think you could go wrong with either one. The Stage 3 Roush is a MUCH more rare car and the price tag shows it too LOL. The HP numbers are quite similar stock for stock, but the decision should be an easy one for you to choose. The reason I say this is because they're two different body styles. When you have an 04 Cobra against an 04 Roush that may be a little hard to choose which one, but since these are two completely different cars, you should be able to see which one you like the looks of and which one drives the best and feels most comfortable to you. Another deciding factor that helps me choose many things in life is the price tag. How much money do you want to spend. If money is no object then you'll have to see which one fits your style, look and comfort more. Take a hard look at them both and test drive the Roush if they'll let you and that should help you decide. Just to make things more complicated for you, if you're leaning more towards the Stage 3, then you should also consider the Shelby GT500 that's on it's way out and will be in the same price range as the Stage 3 Roush. The Shelby will me the better overall investment (in my eyes) just because of who Shelby is in the car world and how this is probably going to be one if his last, if not the last project. The value will go through the roof. Just my thoughts!

The Cobra is under rated from the factory...hearsay of stockers dyno'ing 380-390 at the wheels...

Sorry man, I had work to do. The only reason I made it out at all was that I ended up with two appraisals in that area late that afternoon; had to leave early since I had to get them out Thursday am. This coming Wednesday might be better....

I agree with this. That should be your real comparison unless you are on a tight budget. Our pre-'05 cars are plastic filled rattle-traps compared to those new ones. Ergonomics, fit and finish, materials used are all miles ahead on the newer Mustangs. Besides, once a body style is no longer being made, it doesn't take long for it to start looking old. Looking old is cool when your car is 40 years-old but not cool now. Now the Shelby vs Stage 3 is a really good question. Both will be rare and cost in the same ballpark. Going to have to wait and see which one kicks out what numbers when it comes to handling, braking, acceleration.

i am going to get the 2006 roush 3 , at least at this point in time. but like you say the shelby gt 500 is something to think about. i hear the list is long, & their hard to get. i didnt mean to start a pissing contest, both cars put a smile on my face . i havent driven a 2006 stage 3 roush yet , cant wait. just trying to compare the two so i could get an idea of what it would feel like .

The eventuality of owning a GT500 was also a part of my decision making process. In the end, I figured the 04 Cobra would financially make a better interim car (no new car depreciation, seemingly better resale) than a new Roush Stage 3, should the market move in a way that makes the Shelby's obtainable for the somewhat average guy. I feel it will happen after the hype dies down.

I felt that if/when the opportunity presents itself to get a 500, I can sell/trade the Cobra and have experienced a much lower cost of ownership in the meantime. If I truly felt I would keep the car forever, the 3 would have been the top choice. I don't know if I will be able to resist the Shelby if it's obtainable....

Hence, my decision. Your mileage may vary....either way, enjoy your new car.

BTW, when you get it, don't forget to post pics......

03 Cobra

Sold my 03 SVT 10'th black/red conv. last month and I miss it! I am looking at coupes now (want to do some track time) with a few mod's it was up to 469 rwh and did 120 in third. All the roll-bars I looked at would have destroyed the car's looks and value. The only problems I ever heard about the 03-04 cobra's were you could run out of brakes and the i.r.s. was not built to take an increase in HP above the 400-425 it came with.

I have a 2003 Stage 2 that I am currently trying to sell. When I bought it, I was torn between the 03 Cobra or the 03 Roush. I really wish I would have got the Cobra. This is purely based on my experience trying to sell my Roush which is in pristine condition. For some reason, Roush doesn't list their cars with NADA. This means it is a mega bit%$ to sell your car for what its really worth. Also, the 03 Cobra has the SC. I could only afford a Stage 2 with no SC at the time. If Roush continues to not list with NADA, then go with the Cobra. They hold their value better.
