Whine

Got a high.. and higher whiney noise coming from the rearend when modestly powering up.. kinda sounds like some whiney asses's I know on here. Ok that might not help my cause in getting input (lol) but I am taking it to the shop on tuesday and thought I would throw it out there for ya'll. Pinon bearing? Rearend? No leaking oils .....

Have you ever had any rear-end work done? Gears replaced/changed? Mileage?

Sounds like my 88 F150 did when the rear end went out in Yosemite one time...bad bearings at less than 20k miles...thankfully still under warranty. I had a long whiney trip home!

I'd say your possibly looking in the $700-$1,000 range.

gears whine, bearings grind or squeal. Now worn bearings can cause gears to be out of mesh tolerance and THAT can cause a whine. Good luck Dave, hope you come out of this cheap sir.

I had the rear gears swapped out by my friendly mechanic for around $450...last year. I supplied the goodies he did the work. So I think the $700 estimate is right in the ball park

Just pretend it is your Rocket Booster Charging up just before you hit the boost button, like the one in the old K.I.T.T.

ok... unofficial verdict from my mechanic..... I have Metal shavings in my Rearend . My mechanic doesnt do rear ends and I am going with another shop that is highly recommended. They gave me a ball park figure of 500 bucks.

Can anyone tell me what gear ratio I have in my stock '04 stage 2 please?

Should I consider going with 3.73 gears as everyone sounds so happy with them... and if I did that, would it greatly affect my MPG and would they last longer than the stock gears that made all of 63k???

Whats the Roush readend housing cover all about? Is it an upgrade worth the money???

I am sure I will have more questions. Any good input would be greatly apprecieated as I dont want to let this get worse. Many thanks, D
