t56 swap question

i'm thinking of doing a t56 swap. recently my clutch went out and i bought a new one spec stage 3. But then my friend told me he would swap the clutch and transmission for $300, and i was like now might be a good time to do this. So right now im hoping to find a use t56 for sale, but the big question is will my 10.5 spec clutch work on the t56? I just ordered it so i can send it back, but i'd prefer to just keep it if i can. I heard t56 is 11" but i also know the 05-09 do 11" but they prefer the 10.5" (not sure why) is this the same for the t56?

Also which t56 do i look for, is it only the cobra ones? What about the corvette ones?

Are you refering to the transmission or if the clutch will work? Standard t56 is the cobra one right? so the standard viper one works?

The T56 takes a 11" flywheel and clutch. Also if your going to do the swap you need to upgrade the input shaft to the 26 spline shaft. Also you'll have to get a different cross member and drive shaft. I know there is a company that sells the kit. Just search on Google.

I picked up a T56 during the summer. I just haven't got around to doing the swap yet.

So i guess i need to ship it back for the 03 cobra one. where did you find the t56? ive searched google and i only came up with one but it was 1200 + 400 for the core and 220 in shipping, so after all that id rather pay for new. im hoping to find one for 1200 or less is this possible? How much did you pay?

This place sells a good kit for the entire swap. I bought my trans for 850. I have a guy near where i live that just buys 03/04 cobras. He made me a deal since i've bought so much stuff from him.

Your going to need more than just the trans for this to work. You'll need the new crossmember, driveshaft, shifter, and clutch.

We did 03stage2's swap with no problems associated to the transmission.. The cobra t56 has a 10 spline input shaft.. The viper has the 26 spline.. If you use the viper, you will have to change the clutch out due to the # of splines.. The trans really doesn't know if its behind a 11'' or 10.5'' clutch... You need a 1'' shorter D/S and a modified crossmember.. You can easily modify your own crossmember or purchase one.. You also have to hook up a switch to the reverse solenoid to assist in getting reverse.. The 10 spline input shaft is the weak link, so you may want to consider doing the 26 spline swap.. Here is a link with some info... Good luck

Thanks guys im starting to reconsider doing this. i already have the 10.5 in clutch now but it it'll work then im open to the swap. My only problem is i cant seem to find any used t56's except for 1800 which is way to much for what i want to pay.

You should ask him for another transmission for 850 and sell it to a fellow fnsweet member i'm looking to spend no more than 2k total on this swap but if the tranny is 2k then im looking at 3

Actually im looking at only 2k or less. i Have a friend that will install the clutch, modify the cross member and driveshaft for $300. So all i really need is the transmission.

dang you should be able to do that. Call some junk yard i'm sure they can find you a T56 some where for less than that. I've seen salvage cobras sell for 5k.

Try MPS, which is mustang parts salvage.. Or " pick a part " in Cleveland, OH... Also go to any of the SVT sites, they usually know someone or where to get one... Good luck and take Pics....

The cost is worth it, I went with a T56 and it has made a huge difference.
