REAR end take 2~questions

Ok... got the new gears (3.73) installed. Total cost with new gears, bearing kit and Roush 8.8 Diff cover ~ 790.00 bucks. Happy with that price. Unfortunately there was some issue with the Rear brakes holding up. Upon getting home and inspecting things it appears they may have done something to my driver side rear rotor aka like ground it down. The back rotors are so hot its unreal. No dragging noise though and the TC works fine. So a couple questions....

Why are the back rotors screaming hot? Perhaps even hotter than the fronts? I have the pads that came with the Alcon upgrade on there. Is there a better pad?

Question 2. I was told the speedo wouldnt be off much with the 3.73 gears but it sure seems like its more like 10+mph. How do I get the speedo recalibrated? I really like accuracy...

Overall I am thrilled with the gears and installation costs. A big thanks goes out to Stage3motorsports for the awesome service/shipping/cost on the parts. You guys ROCK !!!

Sounds like your rear brakes are dragging. They should have pushed the "pucks" back in on the caliper when they installed the brakes back on the car. They may not have and that might be what is causing them to drag. I would take it back and have them check it out.

The speedo is about 10mph off and you need a hand-held tuner or a new tune to correct for the speedo.

Don't push the pucks, they rotate back into the caliper. Turn them, theres a tool for that. Dave, they may be hot because they are new pads and have to "seat" into the newly turned rotors. Short break in period on new brakes. Those guys should have given you some break in procedures so you don't glaze up the new pads.

Brakes have been dragging for along time. Not bad unless it sits, rains, cold or way hot out. The pads are not new. They took some kinda rotory sander,buffer.... Ginder to the rotor. Its not pretty to say the least. They managed to hit the center of the rotor a number of times. Wanted to paint them anyways. The marks are minimual depth. Seems like they took a shade off the whole darn rotor. Its a tranny shop... they worked on my brakes

Thats what I meant.

I thought Dave had the brakes done with the rearend. They had to have taken the brakes off the rear to do the rear end so I just assumed the problem started from them.

Any case hope you get it worked out Dave.

No your right, they did the brakes, just thought he may wanna do it himself if he didn't want to go thru the trouble of dropping it off and being without the car agin.

Is there enough Keystone for him to do the job himself?

actually, in reading his post, he may not have had the brakes done. Hey Dave, maybe when they put it all back together, they tightened the e brake cable too tight, or installed it incorrectly. check that.

Forget the brakes...just gear down a lot...time the lights & hit it!

Hope you get it figured out bud...wonder why they even messed with your brakes? Go see Mike Mak & let him set your speedo...or wait 'til next June & I'll go with you!

(Is that enough Keystone?)

I have the Neon now and am not too far away, let me know if you really want to!!! As for your speedo, I think a X-Cal or Speed-Cal (whichever dang one it is!) would be the cheapest bet. I did find my tuner for about $200 though...
