slicks or radials?

How much time can you cut by switching from Goodrich Comp TAs to drag slicks or radials? Went to the track, and couldn't keep from spinning in 1st and 2nd gear. Best I could manage was 14.04 on street tires. It was my first time on a strip, so I didn't feel too bad. And guys with DRs were spinning too.

Drag radials or slicks will both improve your .60 ft time which will in effect improve your overall time but if it was me I would go with the Drag Radials so you can drive on the street with them plus they are not as hard on the card. If you are gong slicks on you better go ahead and build the rearend and be ready for something to snap when you hook. I use MICKEY THOMPSON ET STREET Drag Radials when we go to the strip. They work real good but others such as BF G Drag Radials and Nitto are good also.

I used a pair of V6 rims with some MT ET DRAGS 26x8.5x15... my 60's went from 2.10's down to about 1.60's
And Jason is right... build that rear if you plan to run slicks. I would recommend Moser or Strange 31 spline axles, a 31 spline carrier

Thanks for the input. I think I'll go with the drag radials. I definitely don't want to break anything. Eventually I'll build the rear and try slicks, but there are some other things I plan on doing first.

Drag radials made a huge diff for me. My last run with my 02 Stg3 was 12.6 at 110, now if I can just learn to really warm them up and launch my car, maybe I can see an 11.99 one of these days.

I went with the Nittos because they supposedly get a little more life than the others. Supposedly, if you are not an idiot with the burn outs you can get close to 10k warm weather driving and 50+ runs out of them.

What size tires/wheels do you run on the front? I have 18 x 9 on all four corners, and have the Alcon 14" rotors on front and 13s on back. Will V6 rims still fit and not hit the calipers, or do I need to find some 18 inch radials and rims?

I have 18x9's for the front... but I have the Roush PBR breaks out back so that may be why I can run a V6 rim on mine... I think you are stuck with the 18inch drag radial... but I think MT was coming out with an ET street in teh 18's... just not sure what size they make

How do you launch? 4000rpm and side step the clutch pedal? Or do you do 2500rpm and feather the clutch quickly?
I do the latter on street tires and never tired , but will, drag radials. my best 60' times are 2.1.

Thanks,
Jeff
