AZ - Open Track at Firebird in Nov

It's time for Rondawg and I to hit the open track again. There are only a couple of track weekends left this year with Pro Auto Sports, one being this coming weekend and Thanksgiving weekend. We are not ready for this weekend so we are planing on either Saturday Nov 24 or Sunday Nov 25. I know this being Thanksgiving weekend, some might be out of town or can not make it so I am proposing Sunday and hopefully being at the end of the long weekend some might be able to make it.

We will be running the "Red Group" this time around. Those first timers will need to take the Driver Orientation Class. Good class...

Here are a couple links to previous posts and a writeup Sam did...

These posts include links to Pro Auto Sports and the schedule.

Come on out and joint in the fun. Weather should be very nice. Even if you don't want to run your car, come on out and see what it's all about.

Let us know if you are interested... Thanks...

    What are these sessions like?

I usually run SCCA Club events here. It looks similar. Each session is about 20 minutes on track time. They have the color for classes but they are different. Last two times here I have ran the intermediate class. I saw too many people doing funky things in beginner and wanted to move up.

Do you think they would require me to do the classes? I have done 5 track days now, three with the Roush.

I will strongly look at being able to make this event. It would be awesome to run with some other Roush cars. I really will have to get some brake ducting on the car before I go though.

It's the same here 4 sessions about 20 minutes long, If you are planing to come out i would call and let them know if you have a license for another track, i don't know why you would have to take a class, but who knows. I would call......

I looks like, after reading their site more, that I will have to take the class. Since I am still fairly new at all this, I don't see it being that bad, but I would rather have to two morning sessions on the track. It also makes me feel wierd to have someone in the car with me. Even if they are an instructor.

The tracks here don't require a license to race on them. The SCCA groups just don't need it I guess.

I will have to check at work and see how busy we are then. A couple of days around then should not be too bad for me to get off. The price is good and all as well.

Where is the track? the address doesn't show where the track is. I may also need some help with finding a decent hotel if I can go.

A beer sounds good. it would be nice to meet you.

I would stay for both days I think If I did go. Maybe come down on Saturday, and race Sunday. I don't like racing the car for both days. For some reason it just makes me feel like it's too hard on the car. I still have my concerns about clutch, and of course brakes and all.

I am going to look into the Down under racing brake kit, I need to do something with my rear rotors, and that would get me going.

The good thing about my job is I can afford toys, the bad thing is I don't usually have time to get away but I am working on that.

    06Roush_st¬3,

It is my understanding that any/all new drivers to Pro Auto Sports have to take the new member orientation class even if only participating in the performance driving program and not racing. If you look closely at the pictures from Ron and my first time there was a race car in our class. He had race many times before but this was the first time with Pro Auto Sports and hence in the orientation class…

The class is good and you DO get to drive all four driving sessions. You will not miss the "two morning sessions on the track" as you indicated. Having the instructor ride with you is really good. The one I had pushed me and had me jumping over the curbs where it made sense, you know, fastest way around the track. We also had some good discussions after the session. In fact, I am planning on having an instructor ride with me probably on my second session for some "how am I doing and some suggestions".

Give me a call tomorrow and you can ask any questions you might have. It would great to have you down to Phoenix for this event. PM sent soon...

Anyone else considering joining Ron and me? Ron is hoping to have his Trak Pak in time to run it. I hope he gets it in time as I would love to see it go... PM me if you have any questions?

Shay, you think you might be able to come out and take some of your awe-inspiring pictures this time?

If Ron gets the Trac-pac then I can just fly down and drive his sport. Sounds good to me. Then I don't have to drive.

I am still thinking about this. I have to get the brakes on and all that before I would go. right now we are slow then for events at work, then I just have to convince the GF to let me go.
